First time I saw Sultan Tryndamere in a loading screen I had to double take. Tryndamere in robes and a turban instead of his usual barbarian getup? Weird pick for the character but honestly it works better than you’d expect. Been running this skin on and off since maybe season 4 and theres something about the silhouette that just feels different when you’re splitpushing top lane.
What actually changes on Sultan Tryndamere
This is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP so keep expectations realistic. No new VFX. No new animations. Voice lines stay base. What you get is a full model swap and a really clean weapon design. The curved scimitar replaces Tryndamere’s usual greatsword and honestly the swing animations read better with it in my Diamond games. Could be wrong here but the auto attack cancel feels smoother visually, even though nothing mechanically changed.
The outfit itself pulls from Ottoman or Middle Eastern royalty aesthetics. Gold trim on deep purple robes, ornate turban with a jewel centerpiece, armored gauntlets that catch light during his E spin. Small details. The cape flows during movement which is a nice touch for a skin from 2012.
No new recall animation obviously, this predates custom recalls by a couple years. You get the standard Tryndamere recall which is fine. Not gonna lie, the base recall on Tryndamere is so fast anyway when you’re splitpushing that you barely notice it. One thing I will say: the skin reads cleanly against the Rift. The purple and gold palette stands out without being obnoxious, which matters when you’re tracking your champion in a messy teamfight around Baron.
Voice pack is base only. Brian Sommer’s voice work on Tryndamere still holds up though so its not a dealbreaker. The rage screams hit the same.
The Wonders of the World line and release context
Sultan Tryndamere dropped September 26, 2012. Deep into season 2. Bo Lu nailed the splash art, the composition with the desert palace background sells the fantasy hard. Might be overthinking it but I think this splash is one of the better ones from that era of League art.
Part of the Wonders of the World skinline, which is one of Riot’s smaller thematic sets. Sultan Gangplank exists in the same line. The Wonders of the World concept never got the expansion it deserved, feels like Riot moved on to bigger thematics pretty quick. Two skins deep and they called it.
No chromas on this one. Zero. What you see is what you get. For a 975 RP skin from 2012 thats expected. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever. (Random aside: I keep this skin equipped specifically for when I get autofilled top and decide to go full splitpush Tryndamere to tilt the enemy laner.)
Should you buy Sultan Tryndamere?
Real verdict: Sultan Tryndamere sits in a weird spot. At 975 RP it’s priced above the cheapest options but below the flashier Epic skins. If you’re a Tryndamere main who’s been grinding ranked with him, you probably already own Nightbringer or Demonblade. Those skins have new VFX and more going on.
But if you want something understated that doesnt scream “I’m a Tryndamere one-trick” in champ select, Sultan has appeal. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across multiple seasons and I never got tired of the model. The scimitar animation on his Q heal and his ult activation look clean. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was in a ranked game where my Tryndamere locked in with this skin and the enemy top laner typed “respect the drip” in all chat before the first wave even crashed.
975 RP feels fair for what you get. It’s a complete model overhaul with a distinctive theme. Skip it if you need particle effects to justify a purchase. Worth it if you appreciate the aesthetic and want variety in your Tryndamere rotation. Not the best Tryndamere skin full stop, but a solid pickup for mains who want every option available when they lock in for lane prio top side.
