Blood Moon Tryndamere

First time I saw Blood Moon Tryndamere load in, I thought someone modded a fighting game boss into the Rift. The mask, the crimson armor plating, the oversized demon blade. Honestly not gonna lie, it caught me off guard because Tryndamere skins historically range from “okay” to “why does this exist.” This one actually tries. And for the most part it lands.

What Blood Moon Tryndamere brings to the table

The whole model leans hard into the oni demon aesthetic. Tryndamere’s sword gets this jagged red-black redesign that looks like it was forged from solidified blood. Dramatic. The mask is the centerpiece though, covering his face completely, which honestly makes him more intimidating than base Tryndamere screaming with his shirt off.

VFX got a full rework for an Epic. His spin (E) leaves this blood-red trail that lingers longer than you’d expect. Looks clean in teamfights when you’re diving through the backline. The Q heal has red particles swirling around him, nothing crazy but noticeable. W shout sends out these crimson wave effects. Solid work.

His ult is where it gets interesting. When you pop Undying Rage, there’s this burst of Blood Moon energy and the red intensifies around the model. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 40 games and the visual feedback on R activation actually helps in chaotic fights. You know exactly when it pops. Could be wrong here but I think the crit animations also feel slightly different, more weight to each swing. Might just be placebo from the bigger sword model.

Recall animation is new too. Tryndamere does this ritualistic sword plant into the ground with blood moon energy rising around him. Short and aggressive. Fits the character.

Voice lines stay base. Same Brian Sommer VO, no filter. Bit of a missed opportunity since Blood Moon skins on other champs sometimes get processing, but at 1350 RP thats pretty standard for the line.

The Blood Moon line and release context

Blood Moon Tryndamere dropped February 20, 2020. Right around the start of season 10. The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes and honestly one of their most consistent. Katarina, Jhin, Thresh, Evelynn – the line has bangers. Tryndamere fits naturally into the demon warrior fantasy.

No splash artist credited in the data, which is unusual. The splash itself goes hard regardless. Tryndamere mid-swing with the blood moon hanging behind him, temple architecture in the background. Reads well as a loading screen piece.

7 chromas total for this one. Obsidian turns the whole thing dark, almost void-like, which I think actually competes with the base color scheme. Sapphire swaps to blue and gives off a completely different vibe, less demon more ice warrior. Pearl is the clean white option but personally I keep coming back to base red because it just reads “Blood Moon” better than any recolor (random aside: my duo partner bought every single chroma day one and only uses Ruby, which is barely different from the default). The rest fill out the collection but none of them hit as hard as those three.

Should you buy Blood Moon Tryndamere?

Real verdict: if you play Tryndamere in ranked at all, this skin deserves a spot in your rotation. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX are clean, the model redesign is strong, and the Blood Moon theme gives Tryndamere an identity beyond “angry barbarian man.” Not the flashiest Epic ever released but everything here works.

The competition in his skin catalog is weird. Demonblade is a Legendary but it’s ancient and shows its age. Nightbringer came later and arguably edges Blood Moon out on pure spectacle. But for the price point, Blood Moon holds its own. Spammed this in a bunch of ranked games last March and the auto attack animations feel responsive, no visual clutter messing with your cs timing.

Skip this if you already own Nightbringer and only play Tryndamere occasionally. But for mains splitting and diving every game? Worth 1350 RP. Shop has it, pick it up whenever. One of the better Tryndamere options and I think most top lane players who lock him in regularly would agree. S-tier Tryndamere cosmetic for the price bracket, been season 12 or 13 I forget when I first bought it but it hasnt left my favorites since.
