First time I saw Demonblade Tryndamere in a loading screen was back in season 2, and honestly it scared the hell out of me. The splash alone sold the fantasy. Giant demonic blade, glowing red armor, Tryndamere looking like he crawled out of some Diablo crossover. Been running this skin on and off for years and I have a lot of thoughts about where it stands in 2024.
What Demonblade actually brings to the table
This is a Legendary skin, so you get new VFX and a full new voiceover. Brian Sommer voices the demon version and the delivery is solid. Deep, guttural, angry. Fits the whole corrupted barbarian king vibe. The voice lines carry this skin hard. Base Tryndamere sounds like a generic warrior, but Demonblade Tryndamere sounds like something that eats generic warriors for breakfast.
The VFX tell a story too. His Q heal has this red demonic pulse, his W shout gets a darker visual impact, and the E spin slash leaves a trail that actually reads cleanly in teamfights. Not gonna lie, the R is where things get interesting. Undying Rage with the demon aesthetic just works. You pop ult, the screen gets that red tint, and suddenly youre this unkillable demon diving the backline. Played maybe 150 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the ult moment never gets old.
Model-wise, Tryndamere goes full demon knight. The sword is massive, glowing, looks like it has its own heartbeat. The armor is red and black with these horn-like protrusions. Could be wrong here but I think the model got some minor touch-ups over the years because it looks slightly cleaner than I remember from 2012. Still shows its age compared to newer Legendaries though. The auto attack animations feel heavier than base, which is a nice touch when youre just farming cs in lane.
One thing that stands out in my Diamond games: the spin slash VFX is actually easier to track than base. When you E through a minion wave or into a gank, the red trail gives you better visual feedback on the hitbox. Small detail but it matters when you’re splitpushing and need to dash over walls clean.
The Otherroads line and release context
Demonblade Tryndamere dropped August 1, 2011. Season 1 era. Think about that for a second. This skin is older than most of the champion roster. It falls under the Otherroads skinline, which is basically Riot’s catch-all for “what if this champion took a different path.” Tryndamere’s path here was apparently becoming a full demon instead of just being angry about Aatrox destroying his tribe.
No chromas on this one. Legendary skins from this era just didnt get that treatment. (Random aside: I still use this splash as my Discord profile pic sometimes because the art goes hard even by modern standards.) The Otherroads line has some interesting skins scattered across the roster but Demonblade Tryndamere might be one of the earliest entries.
At 1820 RP, this is full Legendary price. Shop has it, permanent availability. You can grab it any time. No artist credited in the data for the splash, which tracks for skins from 2011. Riot wasnt always great about crediting individual artists back then.
How it compares to other Tryndamere skins
Tryndamere has a decent skin catalog now. Nightbringer exists, Blood Moon exists, Warring Kingdoms is clean. But Demonblade Tryndamere holds a specific spot. It’s the OG premium Tryndamere skin. The one that Tryndamere mains rocked before any of the newer options existed.
Real talk though. Nightbringer Tryndamere is probably the more polished skin in 2024. Better model, smoother animations, more modern VFX. But Demonblade has something Nightbringer doesnt: that raw early-League energy. The voice lines feel less produced, more menacing. Less “designed by committee” and more “someone at Riot thought demons were cool and just went for it.”
Last Tuesday I had a ranked game where the enemy top locked in Tryndamere with Nightbringer and I had Demonblade. Kinda felt like a generational clash. His skin looked cleaner in the loading screen but mine had more personality in-game. The demon voice lines hit different when you’re running someone down pre-6 with Ignite.
Should you buy Demonblade Tryndamere?
Verdict time. 1820 RP for a 2011 Legendary is a tough sell if you’re comparing feature-for-feature against something like God-King Darius or any recent Legendary. The recall animation is base, the model shows its age in certain angles, and the VFX are good but not 2024-good.
But if you main Tryndamere, if you’ve been grinding ranked with him for seasons, this skin has a charm that newer options cant replicate. The voice lines alone justify the price for one-tricks. Been daily driving this in Diamond for stretches and it still feels right. Worth 1820 RP if you main Tryndamere and appreciate the classic demon aesthetic. If you’re a casual Tryndamere player who picks him once every 30 games, Nightbringer is the smarter buy. Might be overthinking it but I think every serious Tryndamere main should own both. S-tier Tryndamere cosmetic for the history alone.
