Nightbringer Tryndamere

First game I played with Nightbringer Tryndamere was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Thursday. Locked it in without even checking the splash properly. The loading screen hit and I just sat there for a second. Tryndamere looking like some corrupted war deity with that massive chaos blade. Honestly not gonna lie, the skin sold itself before minions even spawned.

What Nightbringer Tryndamere actually brings

This is an Epic tier skin so you’re getting new VFX and a new recall but no voice changes. Voice lines stay base. For 1350 RP though, Riot put in the work where it counts.

The sword is the centerpiece. Dark energy pulses through it, kind of flickering between deep crimson and black. When you spin (E) through a wave, there’s this trail of dark particles that lingers for a second. Clean. The Q heal has a subtle dark burst around Tryndamere that reads well in teamfights without being obnoxious. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attacks feel smoother with this skin. Placebo probably, but I swear the animation cancels on crits land tighter.

W shout sends out this wave of dark energy. Nothing crazy but it looks way more threatening than base. Your lane opponent sees that coming at them and it just hits different psychologically. The ult though. Big moment. When you pop R, Tryndamere gets this dark aura explosion, crimson energy radiating off him. In a dive situation where you’re tanking tower and popping ult at the last second, the visual feedback is immediate. You know exactly when its active.

Recall animation has Tryndamere channeling all that Nightbringer energy into his blade before slamming it down. Short, aggressive, fits the character. Been running this in Diamond splitpush games and the recall feels appropriately menacing when you’re taking their inhib tower and backing in their face.

The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer line

Nightbringer Tryndamere dropped September 23, 2021. Late season 11. The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer skinline is one of Riot’s bigger thematic universes at this point, and Tryndamere fits the dark chaos warrior angle naturally. Dude literally refuses to die in his base kit. Making him an avatar of destruction wasnt exactly a stretch.

Augusto Quirino and West Studio handled the splash art. They cooked. The composition puts Tryndamere mid-swing with that massive blade, dark energy everywhere, and there’s this sense of weight to it that a lot of splash pieces miss. Worth zooming in on the armor detail.

9 chromas total. Thats a solid selection. Obsidian goes full dark mode, almost entirely black with minimal color accents, which reads clean against the Rift. Deathbringer is the standout for me though, the black and white contrast gives the skin a completely different vibe. Sapphire shifts everything blue and honestly looks like it could be a Dawnbringer variant if you squint. I keep coming back to Deathbringer in my ranked games. (Random aside: I set the Deathbringer chroma splash as my Discord profile picture for like three months and nobody even recognized it was Tryndamere.)

Splitpush king aesthetic

Played maybe 200 games with this skin across season 11 and 12. Tryndamere mains know the drill. You’re in a sidelane 80% of the game, so you need a skin that looks good in 1v1 and 1v2 scenarios more than teamfights. Nightbringer delivers there. The dark VFX pop against both red and blue side jungle backgrounds. When you’re chasing someone down with ghost and critting them through their flash, the visual clarity stays sharp.

The skin also does well in the rare teamfight scenario. Spinning through the backline onto their ADC, the E trail makes it clear where you came from and where you’re going. Good visual language for your team too.

Real talk though, my one complaint is minor. The W slow debuff visual on enemies could be more distinct. In a chaotic 5v5 its hard to tell who got hit. Base Tryndamere has the same issue so its not a regression, just a missed opportunity to improve on it.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. No new VO is expected at this price point so thats not a knock. The VFX carry the skin hard, the chromas give you real variety, and the thematic fits Tryndamere perfectly.

If you’re a Tryndamere one-trick grinding ranked, this competes directly with Demonblade for best skin. Demonblade is Legendary with the full VO package, but Nightbringer’s VFX are arguably cleaner and more modern. For half the RP. Could be wrong here but I think most Tryndamere mains in Diamond and above run either this or Blood Moon.

Still in the shop. Worth 1350 if you main Tryndamere. Even if you only pull him out for counterpicks in top lane, this skin makes those games feel premium. S-tier Tryndamere cosmetic and probably his best value pickup right now.
