First time I saw Chemtech Tryndamere in a loading screen I thought someone modded the game. The whole aesthetic is so far from default Tryndamere that it took me a second to register which champion I was laning against. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across season 7 and 8, and it still catches people off guard in Diamond lobbies. Not gonna lie, the Zaun-tech vibe on a barbarian king is a weird combo on paper but it works way better than it should.
What Chemtech actually changes on Tryndamere
So this is a 975 RP Standard tier skin, which means you’re not getting new voice lines or anything crazy. Voice stays default. But what you do get is worth talking about. The VFX got a full Chemtech overhaul. His Q heal has this green chemical burst, E spin trail leaves toxic fumes behind, and his ult activation pulses with that signature Zaun green glow. Real talk though, the E is the standout. Spinning Slash through a teamfight with that chemical trail just looks clean against the Rift.
The model itself turns Tryndamere into this half-machine Zaun experiment. His sword arm is replaced with a massive chemtech blade, tubes running through his body, one eye glowing. Kinda feels like Riot took Urgot’s design language and slapped it onto a melee carry. The recall animation is new too. He slams his blade into the ground and this chemical reaction fires off around him. Short and punchy.
No new VO, which is expected at this price point. Brian Sommer’s base voice lines still carry through. Honestly its fine for what it is. You’re not buying a 975 skin expecting Legendary treatment.
The Silver Age line and release context
Chemtech Tryndamere dropped June 5, 2017. Mid-season 7 if I remember right. Esben Lash Rasmussen nailed the splash, the composition puts the chemtech blade front and center with Zaun’s pipes and smog in the background. Strong piece.
The skin falls under the Silver Age skinline, which is one of those catch-all Riot categories that groups skins without a strong thematic event behind them. Not a knock against it. Some of the best standalone skins live in these smaller lines because they dont need to match fifteen other champions in the same release window. Chemtech Tryndamere gets to be its own thing.
No chromas available for this one. Zero. What you see is what you get. (Random aside: I actually think the base green color scheme is strong enough that chromas would dilute it.) Shop has it permanently, so no vault anxiety. 975 RP whenever you want it.
Should you pick up Chemtech Tryndamere?
Okay, the real question. If you’re a Tryndamere main grinding splitpush games in solo queue, this skin competes directly with Nightbringer and Blood Moon at higher price points. Could be wrong here but I think Chemtech punches above its weight class. The VFX are comparable to some 1350 skins I’ve seen, and 975 RP feels fair for the package.
Last season around 2 AM I was in a ranked game where the enemy top was running Demonblade Tryndamere. That skin is technically Legendary but it’s so outdated that Chemtech looks better in motion. Been maining Tryndamere with this skin on and off since season 7 and I keep coming back. The E trail alone sells it for me.
Where it falls short: no new voice filter, no unique death animation, no chromas for variety. Standard tier limitations. But for a champion whose gameplay is about right-clicking and pressing R at the last possible second, the visual upgrades hit where it matters. Worth 975 if you main Tryndamere. If you’re just picking him up for autofill top lane, the base skin is fine, save your RP for your actual main. But for one-tricks? Solid pickup. Top three Tryndamere skins easy.
