First time I saw Blood Moon Kennen load in, I thought it was a custom skin someone modded. The red and white color scheme just hits so different from the default purple yordle ninja thing Kennen usually has going on. Played maybe 40 games with this one across two seasons and honestly its one of those skins that looks way more expensive than it actually is.
What Blood Moon Kennen actually brings
So for a 975 RP Standard tier skin, you get more than you’d expect. New VFX across the board. The shurikens have this red energy trail that reads cleanly in lane, and the Lightning Rush looks like Kennen is channeling some kind of blood ritual energy. Not gonna lie, the E particles specifically caught me off guard the first time I used it in a ranked game.
The recall animation is new too. Kennen does this theatrical kabuki-style pose thing that ties into the Blood Moon fantasy. Short and clean. No new voice lines, voice stays default, which makes sense at this price point. Base VO on Kennen is already pretty minimal anyway so it doesnt feel like a loss.
Q feels snappier visually with the red projectile. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack particles got a slight touch too. The ult is where the skin really shows up though. Slicing Maelstrom with the crimson lightning popping off in a teamfight looks clean. Had a five-man ult near dragon pit last week around midnight and my duo literally said “that looked cinematic.” Fair point.
One thing worth noting: the model swap gives Kennen a proper oni mask and ceremonial robes. Way better silhouette than base. In bot lane specifically when you’re playing him as a poke support or in top lane splitting, the skin reads well against most Rift backgrounds.
Blood Moon line and release context
Blood Moon Kennen dropped February 25, 2016. Season 6. Sperasoft Studio handled the artwork and they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has Kennen mid-air with the mask and those flowing red ribbons. (Random aside: this splash was my desktop wallpaper for like three months straight.)
The Blood Moon skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes. Kennen fits naturally into it. The whole concept pulls from Japanese Noh theater and oni mythology, and a yordle wearing a demon mask just works. Think about it: tiny ninja channeling ancient blood magic. The fantasy writes itself.
No chromas on this one. Straight base skin only. 975 RP, permanent shop. Kinda feels like Riot could have added chromas later but never circled back to it. Season 9 I think or 10 they did a Blood Moon wave with chromas for other champs but Kennen got skipped.
Should you lock in Blood Moon Kennen?
Real verdict: this is the best value Kennen skin in the shop. 975 RP for new VFX, new recall, and a model that completely changes his vibe. Been running this in Diamond on and off for years and it still holds up against the newer releases.
If you main Kennen or even play him as a counterpick in certain comps, Blood Moon is the one to grab. Infernal Kennen exists at the same price point but I think Blood Moon has cleaner particle work. The red lightning just pops harder than orange fire effects against the Rift’s green tones.
975 RP feels fair for what you get. Maybe just my experience but every Kennen one-trick I’ve seen in high elo either runs this or Arctic Ops. Skip Astronaut unless you really want the meme factor. Blood Moon is the serious pick. The skin where people know you actually play the champ.
