First time I saw Star Guardian Ezreal load into my game I thought somebody was trolling. Ezreal in a magical boy outfit with a little floating companion? Looked like a fever dream. Then I actually played against it and the VFX sold me immediately. Been running this skin on and off since 2017 and honestly it holds up better than skins released two years after it.

What Star Guardian Ezreal actually brings to the table

The biggest change is the Q. Mystic Shot fires this bright golden star projectile that feels cleaner to track than base Ezreal. Not sure if it’s just me but the Q animation on this skin reads faster than default, something about the particle trail being tighter. In lane specifically, landing poke with this skin just hits different.

W gets a similar star treatment. The orb floats out with this sparkle effect that pops against the Rift’s darker areas. River fights around dragon, you can actually see your W mark on targets way easier than base. E is where they went hard though. The Arcane Shift leaves behind this burst of starlight that lingers for a second. Clean visual feedback for your team too, so your support knows exactly where you shifted.

R is the real showpiece. Trueshot Barrage fires a massive beam of golden star energy across the map. Played maybe 150 games with this skin and the cross-map snipes feel more satisfying than any other Ezreal skin I own. The beam width reads accurately too, which matters when you’re trying to catch someone recalling in fog.

The recall animation introduces Ezreal’s Star Guardian familiar. Little guy floats around while Ezreal does his pose. Cute detail. Voice lines stay base though, no new VO, which is the one thing holding this skin back from feeling like a 1820 RP purchase. (random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because “the sparkles are distracting” – thats his problem not mine)

The Star Guardian Season 2 wave and release context

Star Guardian Ezreal dropped September 6, 2017. Season 7 era. This was part of Star Guardian Season 2, the wave that expanded the line beyond the original five. Riot was clearly testing whether male champions could carry the magical guardian fantasy and Ezreal was the obvious pick.

Pan Chengwei, Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores, Esben Lash Rasmussen, Alvin Lee, and Jean ‘Curing’ Go handled the splash. Five artists on one piece. The result shows – the composition with all the Season 2 guardians in formation is one of the better group splashes Riot has done. Ezreal’s pose in particular captures that confident ADC energy.

No chromas on this one. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity since the Star Guardian line eventually got chromas on later releases. The base gold and blue color scheme works fine but I would have paid extra for a darker variant. Real talk though, this Epic tier skin at 1350 RP delivers enough VFX work that the lack of chromas doesnt sting too much. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever.

Should you buy Star Guardian Ezreal?

Straight talk: if you main Ezreal and play more than 3 games a week on him, Star Guardian is a top three skin for the champion. The Q particles alone justify the 1350 RP. I’ve cycled through most Ezreal skins over the years – Arcade, Battle Academia, PsyOps – and Star Guardian stays in my rotation every season.

The skin competes directly with Battle Academia for best Epic tier Ezreal cosmetic. Battle Academia has the school aesthetic and more thematic voice processing. Star Guardian has cleaner VFX readability. Depends what you value. Last Tuesday I swapped back to Star Guardian after a two week Battle Academia streak and the Q just felt right again.

For Ezreal one-tricks climbing through Diamond, the VFX clarity on this skin is a genuine gameplay advantage in teamfights. Been spamming this in ranked since patch 7.17 dropped it and the projectile visibility never gets old. Could be wrong here but I think the W mark is slightly easier to proc visually compared to base, which helps with the W-Q combo timing in lane prio trades. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Not the flashiest Ezreal skin in 2026 but one of the most polished.
