Battle Academia Ezreal

First time I saw Battle Academia Ezreal load in, I thought Riot dropped an anime protagonist into Summoner’s Rift and forgot to tell anyone. The splash had been floating around for a week before launch and I remember thinking it looked too clean to be real. Locked it in the second it hit the shop back in May 2019 and honestly havent looked back since. This is the Ezreal skin that made me stop rotating through his catalog entirely.

The full anime treatment on every ability

This is a Legendary skin and it earns that tag. Every single ability got reworked from the ground up. Q fires this bright golden energy bolt that feels snappier than base Ezreal, almost like the hitbox reads cleaner even though I know thats placebo. The trail it leaves behind has this sparkle effect that screams shonen anime in the best way possible.

W marks targets with a glowing crest. Satisfying. E blink has this burst of light particles on both ends, the entry and exit feel distinct. Could be wrong here but I think the E animation is slightly faster visually than base, just the way the particles resolve. Makes kiting in lane feel smoother even if the actual frames are identical.

R is where it really goes off. Trueshot Barrage becomes this massive golden beam with academy insignia particles trailing behind it. Fired it cross-map last Tuesday around 1 AM to snipe a low-health Jinx recalling at fountain and the kill cam looked like something out of Dragon Ball. The impact VFX on hit spreads out in this radial burst pattern. (Random aside: I’ve used that R clip as my Discord profile video for like two years now.)

New recall animation has Ezreal pulling out a textbook, flipping through it, then doing this confident pose. Short and clean. Not over the top like some Legendary recalls that drag on forever. The homeguard animation is solid too, he does this dash with the cape flowing behind him.

Biggest deal for a Legendary though. New voice lines. Daniel Amerman voices this version and the delivery is peak cocky student energy. Ezreal already has an arrogant personality in base but Battle Academia cranks it to eleven with school references and rival callouts. There’s specific interactions for other Battle Academia skins in your comp which is a nice touch if your duo is running Battle Academia Lux or Katarina.

Battle Academia and the 2019 drop

Released May 15, 2019. Mid season 9. Riot dropped the entire Battle Academia line at once and it was a huge event. Think My Hero Academia meets League. Ezreal got the Legendary treatment as the line’s poster boy while Lux, Katarina, Jayce, and Graves got Epic tier skins. Alvin Lee nailed the splash, the composition puts Ezreal center frame with this dynamic action pose and golden energy crackling off his gauntlet. One of the better splashes in the game period.

The Battle Academia skinline has grown since then. Leona, Caitlyn, Wukong, Garen, Yone all joined later. But Ezreal’s Legendary still sits at the top of the line for me. Being the flagship skin of the whole thematic gives it extra polish that the 1350 RP entries just dont match.

One Mythic chroma exists for this skin. The Mythic variant swaps the color palette to this icy light blue and white scheme. Looks premium, almost like a prestige version honestly. Not sure if it’s just me but the Mythic chroma might actually read better in game than the base gold because the particles contrast harder against the Rift’s green tones. You need Mythic Essence to grab it though so its not exactly accessible.

Where Battle Academia Ezreal sits in the lineup

Ezreal has maybe the deepest skin catalog in the game. Star Guardian, Porcelain Protector, Frosted, PsyOps, the list goes on. Been maining Ezreal with Battle Academia since season 9 and I keep coming back to it over everything else. Pulsefire was the original Legendary and it feels dated now. Star Guardian is clean but the aesthetic is different. Battle Academia hits this sweet spot of flashy without being distracting.

For ADC mains specifically this skin feels good to cs with. The auto attack animation has a crispness to it. Played maybe 150 ranked games with it in Diamond last split and the Q poke in lane just reads well. You see the projectile clearly, your support sees it clearly, the enemy probably hates seeing it clearly. Good visual feedback all around.

Real talk though, 1820 RP is 1820 RP. Not cheap. If you’re an Ezreal one-trick this is a no-brainer, best Ezreal skin full stop. The new VO alone justifies Legendary pricing because you’re essentially playing a different character personality-wise. If you only play Ezreal occasionally, might be overthinking it but I’d say wait for the Your Shop discount. Still in the shop permanently so no rush.

Spammed this in Diamond during the Arcane hype period when everyone was picking Ezreal and Jinx. Having Battle Academia equipped while half the lobby runs base skin Ezreal felt like showing up to a teamfight in a sports car. The VFX difference is that noticeable. Season 9 release and it still holds up in 2026, which says something about the quality Riot put into this one. Skip Pulsefire, skip Nottingham, skip the meme picks. Battle Academia is the Ezreal skin if you can only own one.
