Heimerstinger

First time I saw Heimerstinger load into my game I thought someone was trolling. A bee Heimerdinger. Full commitment to the bit. Then his turrets started firing little stingers and I realized Riot actually cooked with this one. Been running this in Diamond for a couple seasons now and honestly the novelty hasnt worn off. The Bees! skinline is one of those ideas that sounds like a meme until you see the execution.

What the skin actually changes

So the big thing with Heimerstinger is the turrets. They’re beehives now. Little hexagonal buzzing hives that shoot golden projectiles. Not gonna lie, the first time I placed three of them in bot lane river bush and watched a Kayn walk into all three, the visual of angry bees swarming him was genuinely funny. The Q turrets have this warm honey-gold glow that reads clean against most Rift terrain.

W rockets become a swarm of bees flying in formation. Hard to miss visually, which is both cool and a slight competitive disadvantage since enemies can react faster. Kinda feels like the hitbox looks wider than it actually is. E grenade is now a glob of honey that splats on the ground. Satisfying impact. The stun zone has this sticky amber puddle effect that makes it obvious where the CC zone sits.

R upgrades keep the bee theme going. Empowered Q drops a massive queen bee hive. Empowered W sends out a fat wave of bees. Empowered E is a huge honey bomb. All three feel impactful. The recall animation is the highlight though – Heimerdinger gets chased by his own bees and it’s peak comedy. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the VFX carry this skin hard enough that it doesnt matter.

(Random aside: I set this recall as my lobby animation and my duo partner thought it was a custom mod for like two weeks.)

The Bees! line and release context

Heimerstinger dropped March 3, 2022. Mid season 12. The Bees! skinline was one of Riot’s better joke themes, sitting alongside Beezahar, Orbeeanna, and the rest of the hive. Unlike some meme skins that feel lazy, the Bees! line actually got solid VFX budgets.

Huyy Nguyen and West Studio handled the artwork. They nailed the splash – Heimerdinger standing proudly with his bee turrets in formation behind him, the whole scene dripping with golden light. It captures the absurdity perfectly.

8 chromas total. Obsidian turns the bees into wasps basically, dark and menacing. Rainbow is the pride chroma and honestly pops harder than base in my opinion. Rose Quartz gives it this pastel aesthetic that clashes with the silly concept in a way I find entertaining. The rest are solid but those three stand out. Could be wrong here but I think Obsidian is the most popular one in my games – seen it more than base Heimerstinger at this point.

1350 RP. Standard Epic pricing. For Heimerdinger specifically this competes with Dragon Trainer which is a Legendary at 1820 RP. Different vibes entirely. Dragon Trainer is the “serious” pick, Heimerstinger is for when you want to tilt the enemy team through sheer disrespect. Last Tuesday I had an enemy Zed all-chat “nice skin” after I one-shot him with empowered W bees pre-6. Worth the purchase for moments like that alone.

Should you pick up Heimerstinger?

Real verdict: if you play Heimerdinger at all, this skin is a must-own. Best value Heimerdinger skin for the price. Dragon Trainer has more features but costs 470 RP more and the aesthetic is completely different. Heimerstinger leans into the absurd and commits fully.

The VFX are clean enough for ranked. I’ve had maybe 150 games on this skin across two seasons and the particles never felt like they obscured my gameplay. Some Epic skins have that problem where the new effects make it harder to track your own abilities in a teamfight. Not here. The bee projectiles are distinct and readable.

Shop has it. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get – new model, full VFX overhaul, new recall. Might be overthinking it but I think this is the kind of skin that ages well. The humor doesn’t get stale the way edgy skins sometimes do after season 9 or 10 I think. Spammed this in Diamond lobbies and never once wanted to swap back to default. Top pick for Heimerdinger mains, and honestly even if you only play him once a month in ARAM, Heimerstinger makes those games way more fun. Simple change – huge impact on how enjoyable the champ feels to pilot.
