Captain Fortune

First time I locked in Captain Fortune was back in season 5, maybe a week after it dropped. Played one ARAM and immediately knew this was the Miss Fortune skin I’d been waiting for. Not some flashy legendary with new VO or particle overhaul. Just a clean model swap that completely changes the vibe. Gone is the bounty hunter pin-up energy. Captain Fortune walks onto the Rift like she actually runs Bilgewater, because canonically she does.

What actually changes on Captain Fortune

This is a 975 RP Standard tier skin so temper expectations on the VFX front. No new particles on Q, W, E, or R. Voice lines stay base. But the model work here punches above its weight class. Miss Fortune swaps the corset-and-heels look for a proper captain’s coat, tricorn hat, and darker color palette. The guns look heavier. More serious. Kinda feels like Riot designed this one for players who wanted Miss Fortune’s lore upgrade reflected in-game without waiting for a full VU.

The recall animation is new though, and its a nice touch. She fires her guns into the air in celebration. Quick, clean, fits the fantasy. Been running this in ranked for entire splits and it never gets old. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion reads in lane.

Not gonna lie, the auto attack animations feel snappier with this model even though nothing technically changed. Placebo? Probably. But I’ve talked to other Miss Fortune mains who say the same thing. Something about the darker outfit against Summoner’s Rift makes tracking your positioning easier, especially in chaotic teamfights where you need to line up that R on the backline.

The Bilgewater event and Jason Chan’s splash

Captain Fortune released July 30, 2015 as part of the Bilgewater: Burning Tides event. That whole event was S-tier storytelling from Riot. Gangplank “died,” got removed from the game for like a day, the community lost it. Miss Fortune orchestrated the whole thing in the lore. This skin captures that exact moment in the timeline.

Jason Chan nailed the splash. The composition puts Miss Fortune front and center with Bilgewater burning behind her. It reads like a movie poster. (random aside: I had this as my desktop wallpaper for most of 2016 and nobody who saw it even realized it was from League.) The Bilgewater: Burning Tides skinline also gave us Captain Gangplank, but I think Captain Fortune is the stronger design of the two. More dramatic transformation from the base model.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Fair enough for a 2015 release at this price point. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever.

Should you buy Captain Fortune?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. Could be wrong here but I think this is the most underrated Miss Fortune skin in the entire catalog. People default to Gun Goddess or Star Guardian when talking about her best cosmetics. But if you main Miss Fortune and care about the lore at all, Captain Fortune hits different. Spammed this in Diamond last season for maybe 40 games and got compliments on the skin choice twice. That never happens.

Skip it if you only play Miss Fortune for the flashy ult VFX in teamfights, because this skin doesnt change those. But for ADC players who want a grounded, lore-accurate look with a clean silhouette for lane phase? Top pick for Miss Fortune mains who value the fantasy over the particle effects. 975 RP well spent, especially during a sale around October 2023 I grabbed it at half price. Best value Miss Fortune skin full stop.
