Bilgewater Katarina

First time I saw Bilgewater Katarina was back in like season 2, maybe season 3. Somebody on the enemy team locked in Katarina with this skin and I remember thinking the pirate hat looked ridiculous in the best way. Not gonna lie, it took me a few games before I realized this was even a separate skin from the base model at quick glance. The color palette shift is subtle from a distance but up close the whole outfit tells a different story.

What Bilgewater Katarina actually looks like in game

So this is a Standard tier skin. 975 RP. You’re not getting new particles, no fresh voice lines, no recall animation. Voice stays default. What you are getting is a full model swap that leans hard into the pirate fantasy. Katarina trades her usual Noxian assassin look for a Bilgewater smuggler vibe. Tricorne hat, cutlass-style daggers, the whole seafaring aesthetic.

The outfit is solid for what it is. Brown leather, white shirt, thigh-high boots. Classic pirate stuff. Her daggers got a slight redesign to look more like actual naval blades than her standard throwing knives. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season in Diamond and the auto attack animations feel identical to base, which is expected at this price point. No gameplay advantage obviously but the silhouette reads cleaner than some of her other older skins.

Kinda feels like Riot designed this one during their “put a hat on it” era. Simple change – huge impact on the fantasy though. When you’re spinning through a teamfight with Shunpo resets, the pirate coat flares out and it actually looks decent. Q bounces dont have new trails or anything but the dagger model itself carries enough visual weight.

The Bilgewater line and where this skin fits

Released August 29, 2010. Yeah. Over fifteen years ago at this point. Part of the Bilgewater: Burning Tides skinline, which Riot expanded massively during the 2015 event. Katarina got hers way before that event though, back when Bilgewater skins were just “champion but pirate.”

No chromas available for this one. Legacy vault skin so you cant just walk into the shop and buy it whenever you want. Sits in the vault until Riot decides to bring it back during sales or special events. Could be wrong here but I think it showed up during the last Legacy sale around November 2024. If you missed that window, Hextech crafting is your other option.

(Random sidebar: the Bilgewater skins as a whole are weirdly nostalgic for old players. That entire region got so much love during Burning Tides and then Riot just kind of forgot about it for years.)

Should you chase Bilgewater Katarina?

Real verdict: this is a collector skin. Pure and simple. If you main Katarina and you’re climbing in ranked, you have way better options. Project Katarina gives you the full VFX package. High Command has that clean military look. Battle Queen is the flashy pick. Bilgewater Katarina sits in that category of “cool to own, rarely equipped.”

975 RP feels fair for what you get, assuming you can even find it available. The pirate theme works for Katarina’s lore since she has actual ties to Bilgewater through her father’s assassination storyline. Been running this occasionally in normals when I want to mix things up from my usual Death Sworn rotation. Last Tuesday I had a game where their bot lane didn’t even recognize it was Katarina until I dropped a full combo at level 6 in mid. The skin’s rarity means most players just dont see it often.

Skip this if you want peel value from cosmetics or lane prio from intimidation factor. Pick it up if you’re a Katarina one-trick who wants every skin in the collection. For 975 RP from the Legacy pool, it’s an honest old-school cosmetic that does exactly what it promises. Nothing more.
