Kitty Cat Katarina

First time I saw Kitty Cat Katarina load in was back in season 3 and I remember thinking it looked ridiculous. Not bad ridiculous. The kind of ridiculous where you lock it in and your whole team knows you dont care about the outcome. Halloween Katarina in a cat costume throwing daggers around. Been playing this game long enough to appreciate what that energy brings to a ranked lobby.

What Kitty Cat Katarina actually looks like in game

So this is a Standard tier skin from 2010. Texture swap, new outfit, thats about it. Katarina trades her usual leather armor for a black cat-themed costume with ears and a tail. No new VFX on her Q or E. No updated particles on Shunpo. Voice lines stay base. Her ult still looks the same spinning death lotus, just now she’s dressed for Halloween while she does it.

Honestly not gonna lie, the model holds up better than you’d expect for something this old. The cat ears read clearly even in teamfights which is more than I can say for some 2010-era skins. The color palette is dark with purple and black tones that actually look clean against the Rift. Simple change – huge impact on the vibe.

Been maining Katarina with this skin off and on since maybe season 5. The auto attack animation feels identical to base, and since there’s no new recall animation you just get the standard back. Pre-6 laning looks exactly the same as default Katarina. But something about dropping a Shunpo reset combo on their ADC while dressed as a cat hits different. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because he says it’s cursed for bot lane ganking success.)

The Trick-or-Treat line and when this dropped

Kitty Cat Katarina released October 19, 2010. Season 1 era. The Trick-or-Treat skinline is one of Riot’s oldest thematic sets and Katarina was an early pick for it. Makes sense, she already had the assassin energy that fits a Halloween theme.

975 RP price tag. No chromas available for this one. Could be wrong here but I think it’s one of those skins where adding chromas would actually cheapen it. The black cat look works because it’s specific.

Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Sits in the vault and comes out during Harrowing events or special Legacy sales. Last Tuesday I checked the shop and it wasnt there, which tracks since we’re outside the Halloween window. You might get lucky with Hextech crafting but I’ve seen maybe 2 of these in my Diamond games all season. It’s rare enough to turn heads in champ select.

Should you hunt for Kitty Cat Katarina?

Real verdict: this is a collector’s skin. You’re not buying it for flashy particles or a new VO. You’re buying it because you main Katarina and you want every skin in the catalog, or because you appreciate the old-school League aesthetic before every skin needed seventeen chromas and a prestige edition.

975 RP feels fair for what you get. Standard pricing for a Standard skin. The Trick-or-Treat theme carries it. If you’re a Katarina one-trick climbing through ranked, there’s objectively better options like Battle Queen or the Faerie Court line for visual clarity. But Kitty Cat Katarina has that legacy status charm. Kinda feels like owning a vintage jersey.

Not the best Katarina skin full stop. But for Halloween vibes and flexing on people who started playing in season 12, it’s hard to argue against it. Worth picking up if it ever rotates back into the shop during Harrowing. Skip if you only want one Katarina skin and need the competitive edge from cleaner VFX. For the rest of us who’ve been spamming daggers on the Rift since before reworked Katarina was even a concept, season 6 I think or maybe late 5 dont remember, this one earns its spot in the collection.
