Gun Goddess Miss Fortune is the controversial Ultimate skin. Dropped March 22, 2018 at a slightly reduced price of 2775 RP instead of the usual 3250 and the community immediately started debating whether it deserved the Ultimate tag at all. Three years and several hundred Miss Fortune games later I have a nuanced take on this one. Its good. Not great. Good.
Four exosuits and how they differ
Gun Goddess gives Miss Fortune a mech-suit aesthetic with four swappable forms: Scarlet Fair, Zero Hour, Royal Arms, and Starswarm. You toggle between them during the game using ctrl+5. Pan Chengwei did the splash showing all four exosuit variants. Each form changes Miss Fortune’s model color scheme and some VFX details but this is where the criticism comes in: the four forms share the same base model silhouette. You are mostly getting color swaps with minor detail changes rather than dramatically different looks.
Scarlet Fair is red and aggressive. Zero Hour goes tactical black and grey. Royal Arms is a regal gold-white variant. Starswarm shifts to a cosmic purple-blue. The ability VFX do change between forms but subtly. Double Up on Q bounces with form-specific color trails and the second bounce has a small explosion effect that matches your current form color. Strut on W has different boost particles, like Scarlet Fair gives you these red afterburn trails while Starswarm leaves behind little purple-blue stars. Make It Rain on E drops ordnance with color-matched explosions and honestly the E is probably where the form differences are most noticeable because the rain pattern itself changes slightly. Bullet Time on R unleashes a barrage of mech-enhanced shots that change color depending on your active form but the projectile shapes are identical across all four. Had a game last season where I kept swapping forms between fights just to see which R looked best in a teamfight. Starswarm R with the cosmic purple rain of bullets is probably the winner there.
The auto attacks deserve a mention too. Each form gives the basic autos a different muzzle flash color on the guns, and Love Tap passive procs have a form-specific glow when you alternate targets. Not a huge deal but if you are someone who plays a lot of Miss Fortune you notice it after a while. The movement animations in the exosuit feel slightly heavier than base Miss Fortune which some people hate but I kinda like. Feels like you are actually wearing mech armor instead of just running around in a costume.
Rachel Kimsey and Joe Zieja share voice duties. Miss Fortune’s lines lean into the bounty hunter meets mech pilot angle with callouts about weapon systems and exosuit status. The voice work is fine but doesnt feel as transformative as Elementalist Lux or DJ Sona’s form-specific voice changes. Joe Zieja voices a suit AI companion that chimes in during gameplay which is a cool touch but the lines repeat fast. Recall has Miss Fortune activating her exosuit with a deployment sequence where she stands on a platform and the armor assembles around her piece by piece. Decent animation, reminds me of Iron Man suiting up. Part of the Steel Valkyries skinline which also includes skins like Steel Valkyries Janna and Camille.
The 2775 RP price and what it means
Riot priced Gun Goddess at 2775 RP instead of 3250 and admitted that it was a slightly lighter Ultimate experience. Released March 22, 2018. No chromas because the four forms serve that purpose. Still in the shop. Might be the only Ultimate skin that launched with what amounts to a built-in discount which tells you something about how Riot evaluated its own product here.
Kinda feels like this skin sits in an awkward middle ground. Too expensive for what a Legendary offers, not quite delivering on what Ultimate promises. The four forms are nice but they dont feel as distinct as Elementalist Lux’s ten forms or as innovative as DJ Sona’s music integration.
Worth it for Miss Fortune players
Miss Fortune has a massive skin catalog. Bewitching is popular. Pool Party is a classic. Star Guardian exists. Gun Goddess offers something none of those do which is the form-swapping system, but the forms themselves are just similar enough that the wow factor fades after a few weeks. Been running this skin on and off for maybe 300 games and I still switch forms every match just out of habit, but I cant honestly say it changes how I feel about the gameplay the way DJ Sona’s music does.
For ranked specifically, the exosuit model is slightly bigger than base Miss Fortune’s silhouette which is something ADC players might care about. Not sure if it actually affects hitbox perception but it feels chunkier in lane. My duo partner pointed that out to me around season 10 and now I cant unsee it. Could be wrong about any gameplay impact but the visual bulk is definitely there.
If you main Miss Fortune and want to own her most expensive skin, go for it. At 2775 RP its cheaper than other Ultimates and you get four looks in one. The Steel Valkyries skinline has a cool sci-fi military vibe that suits Miss Fortune well as a character. But if someone asked me what the best Miss Fortune skin is for ranked, I would probably say Bewitching or the Prestige variant before pointing here. Gun Goddess is a collector’s piece more than a must-have. Not a bad skin by any measure. Just not the definitive Ultimate experience that the price tag implies. Real talk though, if they ever update the model so each form has a truly distinct silhouette, this skin would jump a full tier in my rankings overnight.
