First time I locked in Mythmaker Irelia was around 3 AM on a Thursday, couldn’t sleep after a rough loss streak. Loaded into a normal game just to test the skin out and immediately knew this was going to be my default Irelia pick for a long time. The whole aesthetic hits different from anything else in her lineup. Not gonna lie, the red and gold palette with the Lunar New Year energy made me feel like I was piloting a completely different champion.

How Mythmaker Irelia actually plays

This is a full Legendary skin at 1820 RP, so you’re getting the complete package. New voice lines from Cherami Leigh, new VFX on every ability, new recall animation. The Q resets feel visually crisp in a way that actually matters for gameplay. When you’re dashing between minions in lane trying to set up a dive, each blade surge leaves these red paper-cutting style trails that make tracking your resets way easier than base Irelia.

Her W channels with this golden shield effect that reads cleanly in teamfights. Big deal for an Irelia player because you need your team to see you’re mitigating damage when you engage on the backline. The E stun markers got redesigned with these ornate red symbols on the ground. Looks clean. More importantly, opponents can read them too, which I think is fair design even if it makes landing the stun slightly harder against players who pay attention.

The R is where Riot went hardest. Mythmaker Irelia’s ult sends out these golden blade walls that shatter into paper fragments on contact. Trapped their Jinx behind it last week in a Dragon fight and the visual explosion when it connected was genuinely satisfying. The whole ability reads as more impactful than base, which matters when you’re trying to zone in a comp that needs you to engage.

Recall animation has her performing this traditional dance with floating blades arranging into a fan pattern behind her. One of the better Legendary recalls honestly. (Random sidebar: I’ve accidentally cancelled this recall like six times because I keep watching the animation instead of checking the minimap.)

The Mythmaker line and where this skin fits

Released January 12, 2023. Right at the start of season 13 if I remember right. Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen nailed the splash, the composition with Irelia surrounded by floating red blades against that golden backdrop captures the skin’s whole vibe in one image.

The Mythmaker skinline leans into East Asian mythology and festival aesthetics. Irelia fits naturally into Mythmaker because her base fantasy already borrows from that cultural space. Some skinlines feel forced on certain champs but this one makes sense. Mythmaker also got Sivir and Garen in the same batch, but Irelia’s version is the only Legendary of the set.

6 chromas total. Sapphire is actually my go-to because the blue replaces all the red VFX and it looks incredibly clean against Summoner’s Rift. Tanzanite goes hard too if you want that dark purple mage aesthetic on a bruiser. Gilded is the prestige-adjacent option with black and gold, been running that one in ranked specifically because it feels less visually noisy than base.

Kinda feels like the chromas on this skin got more attention than usual. Each one shifts the VFX colors to match, which isnt always guaranteed even on Legendaries. Rose Quartz exists for the pink crowd. Ruby and Emerald round out the set.

Voice lines and personality

Cherami Leigh’s voice work carries weight here. The new VO gives Irelia a more confident, almost theatrical personality compared to her base lines. Been spamming this in Diamond for months and the voice lines dont get old the way some Legendaries do. She has specific interactions for killing certain champs, lines about the Mythmaker universe, and her movement quotes reference blade dancing in ways that feel fresh.

Pre-6 laning phase with this skin just feels different. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations are slightly smoother than base Irelia. Might be placebo. Might not be. Either way the passive stacking indicator with the golden blade glow around her is way more readable than default, and for a champion where you need to track your passive stacks before engaging, thats a real gameplay clarity improvement.

Should you buy Mythmaker Irelia?

Real verdict: this is arguably the best Irelia skin if you can only own one. Full Legendary price at 1820 RP. Earns it. The VFX clarity alone makes it worth considering for competitive play, and the aesthetic package is cohesive in a way that some of her older skins like PROJECT or Divine Sword dont quite match.

Shop has it permanently. No vault rotation or loot exclusive nonsense. If you main Irelia or you’re picking her up for ranked this season, Mythmaker is the skin. Been daily driving it since maybe February 2023 and I keep coming back after trying Spirit Blossom and Porcelain. The Q reset visuals, the ult impact, the voice lines. Three things that matter most on Irelia and Mythmaker delivers on all of them.

Skip it if you only play Irelia occasionally in ARAM or something. 1820 RP well spent for mains, overpriced for the once-a-month player. Fair distinction. But if you’re grinding Irelia in solo queue, splitpushing top lane, looking for those Q reset outplays in late-game teamfights, this is the one.
