First time I saw Aviator Irelia loading in, I thought someone on my team was trolling. Leather jacket, goggles on her head, the whole retro pilot thing. Looked nothing like the blade dancer I’d been locking in for ranked. Played three games with it that night and honestly? Kinda feels like Riot had a completely different vision for Irelia back then. This is old-school League design, pre-rework energy, and it shows.
What Aviator Irelia actually changes
So this is a 520 RP Standard tier skin. Set your expectations there. You get a new model with the aviator outfit, scarf, and those pilot goggles pushed up on her forehead. The blades she controls get a slight metallic tint that reads differently from base, more of a brushed steel vibe than the usual Ionian glow. There’s some adjusted VFX on her abilities but nothing dramatic.
Her Q still dashes the same way, W still holds the damage reduction stance, E marks positions for the stun. R sends out the blades in a line. Visually the particles have a subtle shift but if you blink you miss it. No new recall animation either. You press B, she does the default Irelia recall. Base voice lines, no changes.
Not gonna lie, the model itself is clean for what it is. The scarf has nice movement when she’s dashing around in lane, and the goggles are a fun detail. But this is 2010 design philosophy. Simple costume swap, minor particle work, call it a day. Been running this in normals sometimes just for the novelty and I think the outfit holds up better than people give it credit for. The brown and tan color palette stands out against the Rift’s greens.
The Day Job line and some history
Aviator Irelia dropped November 16, 2010. Pre-season 1 era League. Jana Schirmer handled the splash, and its got that classic painted quality Riot used back then before they standardized the hyper-detailed style. The Day Job skinline is one of those early thematic concepts where champions just have regular jobs. Irelia flies planes apparently.
The Day Job line never really took off (pun intended). Riot moved toward bigger fantasy themes pretty quickly after. Makes this skin feel like a time capsule from a different era of the game. I remember seeing it maybe twice in my games all of season 13. Not exactly a popular pick in Diamond lobbies.
Available any time in the shop at 520 RP. No chromas to speak of. What you see is what you get. (Random aside: my duo partner collects every Irelia skin and even he forgets this one exists half the time.)
Should you pick up Aviator Irelia?
Real verdict: this is a collectors-only skin. If you’re an Irelia one-trick trying to complete the set, 520 RP is pocket change. Grab it, throw it in the rotation for those games where you want to confuse your laner with the weird pilot aesthetic. Could be wrong here but I think there’s a charm to rocking an obscure skin that nobody sees anymore.
But if you’re looking for actual value on Irelia? Skip this. Divine Sword, PROJECT, Spirit Blossom, even Mythmaker all deliver way more for the RP. Aviator doesnt have new voice lines, no custom recall, and the VFX changes are minimal. 520 RP is fair for the package, nothing more. Late Tuesday night ranked session last week I pulled it out just to switch things up and my support asked if it was a new skin. Thats how rarely this shows up on the Rift.
For Irelia mains climbing through ranked who want their Q resets looking clean with flashy particles, look elsewhere. For the skin collector who wants every Irelia option in the collection tab, its a cheap addition that won’t hurt your wallet. Simple as that.
