Played maybe 200 games with Forecast Janna across three seasons and I still think it’s the funniest concept Riot ever greenlit for a Legendary. A weather reporter. On the Rift. Janna already controls wind and storms, so turning her into a live broadcast meteorologist with a microphone and a green screen is the kind of idea that sounds absurd until you actually see it in game. First time I locked in this skin back in like season 4, my ADC typed “wtf is that” in chat. Fair reaction honestly.
The weather broadcast fantasy
This is a full Legendary package. New model, new animations, new VFX, completely new voice lines. Janna swaps her usual ethereal wind goddess look for a business suit, heels, and a microphone. She literally holds a mic in one hand. The idle animations have her checking notes and adjusting her hair like she’s about to go live on air. Not gonna lie, the attention to detail here is something else for a 2013 skin.
Her Q tornado gets this stylized wind graphic overlay, the kind you’d see on an actual weather map. Feels like she’s summoning a tropical storm warning. W poke has a clean blue-white trail that reads well in lane. The E shield is where it gets interesting: it wraps around allies with this broadcast-static shimmer effect that I think looks better than most modern shield VFX. Could be wrong here but it actually helps me track shield duration more consistently than base.
R is the highlight. Monsoon goes full hurricane broadcast mode. The knockback pulse has this massive wind graphic that fills the screen with weather map aesthetics. Used it to peel for my Jinx last Friday in a Diamond game and she pinged the thumbs up emote three times. The ult just commands attention in teamfights in a way that base Janna doesnt.
The recall animation. She does a full weather report segment, complete with pointing at an imaginary forecast board behind her. One of the best recalls in the game, period. I’ve seen teammates stop moving just to watch it. (Random aside: I once lost a teamfight because I was watching my own recall animation instead of canceling it when the enemy Kayn showed up.)
Voice lines that carry the skin
Real talk though, the voice over is what makes Forecast Janna a Legendary worth the price tag. Every ability has contextual weather report lines. She announces tornado warnings when casting Q. She gives wind speed readings. She comments on “partly cloudy with a chance of pain” type stuff. The humor lands because the delivery is deadpan professional, like she’s genuinely reporting on the chaos happening around her.
The kill lines are gold. Taking down an enemy and hearing Janna deliver it like breaking news never gets old. Been maining Janna with this skin on and off since season 5 and I still catch new voice lines I hadnt noticed before. There’s a depth to the VO that most Legendaries from this era just don’t have. Compare it to something like Gentleman Cho’Gath from the same price tier and era, Forecast Janna has probably three times the voice line count.
Katie ‘TeaTime’ De Sousa nailed the splash. The composition puts Janna in a broadcast studio with storm clouds rolling in through the windows behind her. Professional but chaotic. Captures the whole concept in one image.
Day Job skinline and where it fits
Forecast Janna belongs to the Day Job skinline, which is one of Riot’s smaller thematic groups. The line explores champions in mundane real-world professions. Janna as a meteorologist. The concept works because her kit is literally wind and weather, so there’s an organic connection instead of a forced theme.
Released September 4, 2013. Early season 3. This was peak “Riot experimenting with skin concepts” era, right around when they started pushing Legendary skins beyond just model swaps. For context, this came out the same year as Spirit Guard Udyr. The skin has held up surprisingly well for something over a decade old, though you can tell the model polygon count is lower than modern Legendaries if you zoom in close.
Might be overthinking it but I feel like Forecast Janna set a template for comedy Legendaries that Riot followed with skins like Primetime Draven. The idea that a skin can be genuinely funny without being a joke. 1820 RP, still in the shop. No chromas available, which honestly feels right for this skin. Adding chromas would dilute the specific weather reporter color palette they built.
Should you buy it?
Verdict time. Forecast Janna is the best Janna skin if you value personality and humor over pure visual spectacle. Star Guardian Janna looks prettier. Sacred Sword Janna has cleaner VFX. But nothing in Janna’s catalog has the character that Forecast brings. The voice lines alone justify the Legendary price, and thats coming from someone who usually thinks pre-2016 Legendaries feel overpriced by modern standards.
1820 RP well spent for mains. If you play Janna even semi-regularly in ranked, this skin adds genuine entertainment value to every game. I’ve been running this in Diamond support games for years and the novelty has not worn off. Two AM last Tuesday I was grinding solo queue and still laughing at the tornado warning lines. That says something about the quality of the writing.
Skip it if you only play Janna as a pocket pick or if you want something more visually serious. But if you’re a Janna one-trick or even just someone who appreciates Riot’s comedy skins, Forecast is the one. Top pick for Janna mains, specifically the ones who spam emotes and type “gg ez weather” in post-game chat. You know who you are.
