Butcher Olaf Skin - Splash, Price & In-Game Gallery

Butcher Olaf is one of those skins where the concept sounds dumb on paper and somehow works in practice. They took the unhinged Viking who runs into teamfights with two axes and handed him a butcher’s apron and a pair of cleavers. That’s actually perfect. Olaf was always a walking meat grinder, and the Culinary Masters theme leans into that without trying too hard.

What Butcher Olaf actually looks like in game

Full model redesign. Gone is the standard blue-grey berserker look: Olaf wears bloody whites and a stained apron, and the axes are now cleaver-shaped. Color palette shifts warmer, redder. Looks like he came straight from a back-of-house kitchen shift and decided to hit the Rift on the way home.

VFX got updated too, which you dont always get at 750 RP. The Q – Undertow – has a tweaked visual trail on the cleaver throw, and the W spin animation reads a little differently from base. Not a full overhaul, but enough to notice. Grinded a bunch of ranked games last October running this skin, and in the bot lane specifically the cleaver throw looked distinct enough that an opposing support wasted a dodge on it. Small thing, noticed it.

No new VO. No recall update either. Base voice lines, no changes – Olaf is not saying anything about cooking, so don’t go in expecting that.

Culinary Masters, Jojo So, and the 2016 release

Butcher Olaf dropped September 7, 2016 as part of the Culinary Masters skinline. Riot released the cooking-themed set in that patch window – Master Chef Tahm Kench came out in the same batch. The Culinary Masters concept is genuinely weird in a good way: bruisers and tanks moonlighting as line cooks.

Jojo So did the splash. Olaf mid-swing, cleaver raised, apron doing its thing. Readable composition, clean colors. (Random aside: there’s a knife sharpening steel hanging off the apron belt – tiny detail that rewards a second look at the splash.)

Is Butcher Olaf worth 750 RP?

Real verdict: this is a better-than-average Standard skin. Full model change plus updated VFX at 750 RP is a solid deal – not every skin at this price bothers with both. The concept is goofy in the right way and the cleaver execution is clean enough that it doesn’t feel like a novelty after twenty games.

If you main Olaf and want something less serious than the default Viking look, this skin works. Been running it off and on in Diamond since around season 12, I think, and it never felt like a downgrade. The cleaver axes actually fit the Olaf playstyle – spamming Q into a backline, splitpushing a side lane, diving whoever thinks they can 1v1 you pre-6.

Kinda feels like this one gets slept on because Brolaf sits at the same price and has the meme factor going for it. Fair point. But if Brolaf’s humor isn’t your style, Butcher Olaf is the next best Standard pick for this champion. Worth 750 RP if you main Olaf, skippable for everyone else.
