Master Chef Tahm Kench

First time I saw Master Chef Tahm Kench in a loading screen I genuinely laughed out loud. Not sure if it’s just me but a giant catfish demon wearing a chef hat and an apron just hits the comedy sweet spot perfectly. Been running this skin on and off since season 5 and it still gets reactions in lobby chat.

What the skin actually changes

So Tahm Kench trades his dark river king aesthetic for a full kitchen makeover. Chef hat, apron, the whole setup. His tongue looks like it belongs in a cooking show. The model rework is solid for a 975 RP skin, they didnt just slap a hat on him and call it a day.

VFX got a refresh here. His Q tongue lash has a different particle trail, and the W devour animation plays into the cooking theme. Swallowing an enemy champion with this skin on feels extra disrespectful. Like you’re literally seasoning them. Played maybe 40 games of Tahm Kench support last season in Diamond and the devour tilts people harder with this skin equipped. Could be coping but I swear it does.

The recall animation is the highlight. Tahm Kench pulls out a pot and starts cooking. Clean animation, good timing, fits the fantasy. For a Standard tier skin at 975 RP this is above average recall quality. Voice lines stay base though, no new VO. Kinda feels like new voice lines about food would have pushed this skin into must-buy territory, but at this price point you cant really complain.

(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I lock in this skin because he says the recall sound distracts him in lane. His problem not mine.)

The Culinary Masters line and release context

Master Chef Tahm Kench dropped July 8, 2015. Right when Tahm Kench launched actually. This was his release skin. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash, the composition with Tahm holding a fork and knife with that grin is iconic for the champion.

Part of the Culinary Masters skinline. Honestly one of the more underrated thematic lines Riot has done. The food themed skins across the roster have this consistent comedic energy that works well. Master Chef Tahm Kench fits the Culinary Masters vibe better than almost any other champion could. A demon whose entire kit revolves around eating things, wearing a chef outfit. The design writes itself.

No chromas available for this one. Zero. Which is a shame because I think a red and white checkered chroma or something Italian themed would sell well. But Riot hasnt revisited it. The base colors work fine, white apron and chef hat against his blue-grey skin reads cleanly on the Rift.

Should you buy Master Chef Tahm Kench?

Real verdict: if you play Tahm Kench at all, this skin is worth 975 RP. Full stop. The recall alone justifies it. Been daily driving this over Coin Emperor in my ranked games last Tuesday and honestly the simpler design reads better in teamfights. You can actually tell whats happening with Tahm’s abilities because the VFX arent overloaded.

For Tahm Kench mains specifically, you probably already own this. For people picking him up as a support or top lane flex, Master Chef Tahm Kench is the budget option that punches above its weight. Real talk though, the lack of new voice lines keeps it from being S-tier. But at this price with custom VFX and a unique recall? Hard to argue against 975 RP. Shop has it permanently so no rush, but if you’re climbing with the River King this season its worth the pickup. Best comedy skin for Tahm Kench and it isnt close.
