Galio as a fast food chicken mascot. Absurd premise. Riot went fully committed with Birdio and the result is one of the funniest Standard skins in the game – picked this up maybe a week after release back in March 2018 and it still gets double-takes in champ select every time I lock in.
What Birdio actually does to Galio
The texture overhaul is where the budget went. Galio’s grey stone gets swapped for warm golden-yellow feathers, a bright red bib, and a full beak redesign. At a glance he reads completely different from base, which matters more than people realize – your enemy ADC is tracking where your ult lands and a bright yellow chicken is easier to misread on approach than standard Galio. New VFX on abilities too, softer and more comedic in quality overall. The W shield animation fits the Culinary Masters theme surprisingly well. Kinda feels like Riot had genuine fun with this one instead of rushing it out.
Custom recall animation is the highlight. He does a full chicken strut sequence before launching off and it reads perfectly in the middle of a teamfight. Saw it for the first time around midnight during a promo series and nearly fumbled my Q. Played close to 80 games with Birdio since then and that recall doesnt get old. No new voice lines though – base VO stays, which is standard for this price point.
Culinary Masters, release date, and the Rudy Siswanto splash
Birdio released March 29, 2018 as part of the Culinary Masters skinline. Small line with a specific concept: take various champions and assign each a fast food restaurant gimmick. Galio as a fried chicken mascot fits the Culinary Masters angle better than most champions in the line – his giant wingspan and goofy silhouette sell the mascot look without much help.
Rudy Siswanto did the splash. Banger splash. Galio posed as an oversized bird mascot with a bucket of wings, red-and-yellow color scheme, the whole bit – the art lands the joke in under two seconds.
Seven chromas total for Birdio. Aquamarine is the standout – the teal feathers read cleanly against Summoner’s Rift terrain and look noticeably better than base in most matchups. Worlds Early Bird goes deep navy with gold accents, almost looks like a prestige variant if you squint. (Random aside: Meteorite chroma is basically rotisserie chicken and I cannot unsee it.) Grab whichever fits your energy.
Is Birdio worth 975 RP
Real talk though – for 975 RP in the Standard tier, this skin delivers more than expected. New VFX, custom recall, full texture work, seven chromas, and a concept that genuinely holds up after the novelty wears off. The Culinary Masters theme is one of Riot’s better joke skinlines because the humor lives in the model, not in every poke or disengage animation screaming references at you.
Shop has it permanently, no vault rotation needed. Worth 975 if you main Galio or even play him once a week in ranked. Maybe just my experience but this one draws more champ select reactions than skins I spent three times as much on. Solid value.
