Glacial Olaf

Glacial Olaf gives the Berserker an ice-themed color swap. June 8, 2010 at 520 RP. Same release date as Forsaken Olaf which means Riot shipped two Olaf skins simultaneously back when champion launches came with multiple skin options. Even Mehl Amundsen nailed the splash showing Olaf in frost-blue armor with icy axes. A Viking with ice weapons. Not exactly a stretch thematically but it works for the price.

Blue berserker basics

The model shifts Olaf’s palette to ice blue tones. The axes get a frost coating. The armor has lighter, cooler coloring compared to base Olaf’s warm tones. No VFX changes. Undertow on Q throws the same axe. Vicious Strikes on W buffs with base effects. Reckless Swing on E does true damage with standard visuals. Ragnarok on R activates identically to default. Pure model swap at 520 RP from 2010.

In the Legacy vault. No chromas. Voice stays default. Part of the Glacial skinline alongside Frozen Shen and others. The Glacial line was Riot’s early attempt at an ice-themed skin series before they developed more elaborate winter event skins.

For Olaf completionists only

Olaf has Sentinel at Epic with full VFX treatment. Dragonslayer at Epic with fire and dragon effects. Brolaf at Legendary for the meme experience. Glacial sits at the very bottom of his catalog in terms of what it offers. An ice recolor. Fair enough for 520 RP in 2010 but hard to recommend when Sentinel Olaf exists for 1350 with actual particle work.

If you roll Glacial Olaf from Hextech crafting, keep it for the collection. The ice axes do look sharp in loading screen. But for actual games where you want Olaf to feel different from base, spend the extra RP on Sentinel or Dragonslayer. The quality gap between 2010 Standard and modern Epic is massive and no amount of nostalgia bridges it. Decent artifact though. Respect the early days.
