Bewitching Poppy

First game I played with Bewitching Poppy was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Tuesday. Locked her in top lane against a Darius and immediately noticed the hammer. Candy corn themed, oversized, absolutely ridiculous. Loved it. The whole witch aesthetic on Poppy works way better than it has any right to, and I think thats because Riot leaned into the cute-spooky angle instead of trying to make her actually scary. Poppy already has that stubborn yordle energy, so putting her in a witch hat with a giant candy hammer just fits.

What Bewitching Poppy actually changes

For an Epic skin at 1350 RP, the VFX package here is solid. Her Q slams down with this orange-purple candy burst that reads clean against the Rift. Not gonna lie, the particles on her Steadfast Presence (W) caught me off guard. There’s this swirl of bats and Halloween sparkle effects when you pop it, and it actually helped me track the zone better in teamfights. Could be wrong here but I feel like the hitbox visual on her E wall stun is slightly clearer with this skin too.

The recall animation is the highlight. Poppy sits on a broom, tries to fly, struggles with it. Classic yordle energy. Been running this in Diamond and teammates comment on the recall more than anything else about the skin. The auto attack animations keep that heavy bonk feel Poppy mains expect, just reskinned with the candy hammer.

Voice lines stay base. Kate Higgins still doing the VO, no filter or new lines. Honestly for 1350 RP nobody expects new voice work, and Poppy’s base lines are charming enough. (Random aside: Poppy’s “I’m no hero” line hits different when she’s dressed as a candy witch.) The splash is where Hozure really delivered though. The composition with Poppy standing in this Halloween graveyard scene, hammer glowing, bats everywhere. Banger splash.

The Bewitching line and release context

Bewitching Poppy dropped October 7, 2021. Right before Worlds that year. The Bewitching skinline is one of Riot’s seasonal cash cows and for good reason. Every Halloween they expand it, and the 2021 batch was stacked. Poppy fit the line naturally because yordles and Halloween go together like ADC and flaming your support.

Horace ‘Hozure’ Hsu handled the artwork. If you know Hozure’s portfolio you know they consistently nail the color work, and this splash is no exception. Deep purples and oranges with that candy corn accent running through the whole piece.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark witch look reads as genuinely menacing on a yordle, which is hilarious. Pearl goes the opposite direction, almost angelic, kinda feels like it belongs in a different skinline entirely. Rose Quartz is popular in my games, seen it maybe 4 or 5 times this season in Diamond. The rest are fine but those three stand out. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Gotta wait for the Halloween event shop rotation or get lucky with Hextech crafting.

Should you buy Bewitching Poppy?

Real verdict: if you main Poppy this is a top pick. Might be overthinking it but I rank this above Astronaut Poppy for pure visual clarity in lane. The VFX are distinct, the theme is fun, and that recall animation has genuine personality. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get.

The catch is availability. In the Legacy pool means you’re waiting for October or hoping for a lucky reroll. Been maining Poppy with this skin since season 12 and keep coming back to it over her other options. Star Guardian Poppy is the main competition but that’s a completely different vibe. Bewitching is for the Poppy player who wants personality without going full meme like Lollipoppy. If you see it in the shop during Harrowing, lock it in. S-tier Poppy cosmetic, especially with the Obsidian chroma.
