Blacksmith Poppy

Locked in Blacksmith Poppy for the first time back in like season 2 or 3 and honestly forgot I even owned it until I was scrolling my collection last Tuesday around midnight. Something about a yordle with a forge hammer just hits different when you’re grinding ranked at 1 AM. Not gonna lie, this skin carries a weird nostalgic weight that most 975 RP skins dont.

What Blacksmith Poppy actually looks like in game

The model swap is where Poppy gets a full blacksmith outfit. Leather apron, soot-stained armor pieces, and the hammer looks like something she just pulled out of the forge. Raw iron aesthetic. The VFX got a slight touch-up which is rare for a Standard tier skin at this price point, and the Q slam has this faint orange glow that reads like heated metal hitting the ground.

Her W shield pulse picks up the warm forge tones too. Subtle change but it sells the fantasy. Could be wrong here but I think the E charge animation feels heavier with this model, like she’s throwing her whole blacksmith frame into the stun. Been maining Poppy with this skin on and off for years and the auto attacks have this satisfying chunky feel in lane.

Voice lines stay base, which is expected at 975 RP. No recall animation either. Standard package. But the model work alone carries it. Playing this skin, the color palette stands out against the Rift better than her default. The darker tones pop in river fights especially. Had a game last week where I peeled my ADC through a full teamfight at dragon pit and the skin just looked clean the entire time.

The Medieval line and where Blacksmith fits

Released August 24, 2010. Early League days. Xi Zhang handled the artwork and the splash captures that old-school Riot vibe perfectly. Part of the Medieval skinline which is one of the smaller themed sets Riot put together. Kinda feels like they had this vision for a crafting-guild universe and then just moved on to bigger projects.

975 RP for a Standard skin with VFX adjustments is fair pricing. Legacy vault skin though, so you cant just grab it whenever you want. Sits in the vault and comes around during special sales or you need to roll it from chests. (Random aside: I got mine from a reroll back when rerolls actually gave you something decent.)

No chromas available for this one. Given the age and Legacy status thats not surprising. Riot rarely goes back to add chromas to skins this old unless there’s a massive demand from the community.

Should you chase Blacksmith Poppy?

Real verdict: if you’re a Poppy one-trick who likes collecting every skin, this is a must-have whenever it surfaces. The blacksmith theme fits her champion identity better than half her newer skins. She’s literally a yordle who carries a hammer. The forge fantasy writes itself.

For everyone else, its a solid skin but not something I’d burn Hextech currency chasing specifically. Been playing maybe 40 games with it this season in Diamond and the VFX changes are noticeable enough to feel fresh without being distracting. Best pick for Poppy mains who want something grounded and not over the top. Skip it if you already have Star Guardian or Astronaut Poppy unless you’re going for the full collection. 975 RP feels fair for the package, assuming you catch it when the vault opens up.
