Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack Damage | 50 | 35 g | 1750 g |
| Lethality | 10 | 30 g | 300 g |
| Critical Strike Chance % | 25 | 40 g | 1000 g |
| Total stat value | 3050 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 3050 ÷ 3000 = 102%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

We compare cost and stats patch by patch in Riot's Data Dragon files. "Effect text changed" means the passive or active wording changed in that patch.
The Collector is a 3,000 gold Lethality and crit item in League of Legends that finishes kills for you: 50 Attack Damage, 10 Lethality and 25% Critical Strike Chance in patch 26.21. Its Death passive executes champions you damage once they fall below 5% Health, and Taxes pays 25 bonus gold for every champion kill.
What do Death and Taxes do?
Death is the execute. Any damage you deal to a champion sitting under 5% of their maximum Health kills them outright, no matter how much the hit itself would have done.
That sounds small, and in raw numbers it is: on a 2,000 Health marksman the threshold is 100 Health, on a 4,000 Health tank it is 200. In practice the value comes from the kills that would otherwise slip away, the Zhonya’s that goes off at 60 Health, the heal that lands a half second before your next auto, the flash over the wall with a sliver left. The item takes those cases off the table. Taxes is simpler: 25 extra gold per champion kill (not assist), which over a game with eight or nine kills is a free Long Sword’s worth of gold, more or less.
Is The Collector gold efficient?
Yes, and that is before either passive. The stats come to 3,050 gold against a 3,000 gold price, or 102%: 50 Attack Damage at 1,750 gold (35 gold per point from basic items), 10 Lethality at 300 gold and 25% crit at 1,000 gold.
So you pay nothing for the execute. Honestly, that is rare among Legendary items, where a passive usually costs a few hundred gold of missing stats, and it is the main reason the item keeps showing up on marksmen who otherwise never touch Lethality. The nearest comparison is Infinity Edge, which gives more damage per crit but asks for more gold and brings no execute.
Who should build The Collector?
Crit marksmen who snowball off kills and lethality assassins who crit a little anyway. Jhin, Draven, Caitlyn and Samira are the usual names; Tristana takes it in some matchups too. Draven in particular loves the Taxes gold, since his own passive already turns kills into cash (and his players already count every coin).
The split between Lethality and crit is the catch. Lethality is flat armor penetration, so it does the most against squishy targets early and tails off against tanks, while crit chance only pays when you stack more of it. A champion that wants one and not the other loses part of the price. Playing a tank or a mage? Then neither stat helps, and the LoL items database has better fits for your gold.
What does the build path look like?
Pickaxe (875 gold), Serrated Dirk (1,000 gold) and Cloak of Agility (600 gold), plus 525 gold to combine. Serrated Dirk is the piece most people grab first, because the Lethality bites hardest in the early laning phase. Nothing builds out of it.
How has The Collector changed over the patches?
Through the price tag, mostly. It arrived in patch 10.23 at the same price it has today and has bounced around in between:
- Patch 14.10: cost 3,100 → 3,200, Attack Damage 55 → 60, crit chance 20% → 25%.
- Patch 14.19: cost 3,200 → 3,400, Lethality 12 → 10.
- Patch 14.20: cost 3,400 → 2,950, Attack Damage 60 → 50.
- Patch 14.23: cost 2,950 → 3,000.
Funny enough, after four years of changes it costs exactly what it did on day one, with less Attack Damage and more crit chance to show for it. Lethality has drifted from 18 down to 10 over the same stretch. The table above has every entry, including the 13.10 bump to 18 Lethality that lasted a year.
When is it the right buy?
When you expect to get kills, not assists, and the enemy team has squishy targets you can reach. Put simply, it rewards finishers, not starters. Does your champion usually take the last hit on a kill? Then The Collector is one of the better second items available, and our guide to LoL roles covers which positions are expected to do that finishing.
