Jhin ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Jhin ARAM build is crit and lethality on a marksman the mode cuts hard: Jhin deals 90% damage and takes 105% damage on the Howling Abyss. His four-shot rhythm, a root with incredible range and a channeled ultimate that pierces minions all work in one straight lane, so you build damage per shot, not shots per second.

The items are our reading of his kit against patch 26.21 data. Win rates don’t enter into it.

How is Jhin changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Jhin
Damage dealt 90%
Damage taken 105%

In ARAM Jhin’s damage dealt is 90% and his damage taken is 105%. Those two lines are the whole adjustment for this patch, and the first one stings. A fourth shot that would hit for 1,000 on Summoner’s Rift lands for 900 here, and the execute portion shrinks with it. Why cut a marksman with no dash by that much? Because the Howling Abyss is one straight line, Deadly Flourish and Curtain Call both travel in straight lines through minions, and a champion who can root or snipe anyone standing in a corridor doesn’t need mobility. The extra damage taken is the smaller problem. To be fair, Jhin was already a champion who died when touched; 105% just makes it official.

Why does Jhin fit the Howling Abyss?

Because two of his spells are lines, and the map is a line. Riot’s data for patch 26.21:

  • Whisper (passive): his hand cannon fires at a fixed rate and carries four shots. The last one critically strikes and deals bonus execute damage, and each crit gives him a burst of Move Speed.
  • Dancing Grenade (Q): a cartridge that hits up to four targets and gains damage with each kill. Cooldown 7/6.5/6/5.5/5 seconds.
  • Deadly Flourish (W): one shot with incredible range that pierces minions and monsters and stops on the first champion. A target recently struck by Jhin, his allies or a lotus trap is rooted. Cooldown 12.
  • Captive Audience (E): an invisible lotus trap that slows nearby enemies, then explodes. Beauty in Death drops a trap by the corpse of any champion he kills. Cooldown 2.
  • Curtain Call (R): a channel that turns Whisper into a shoulder-mounted cannon firing 4 super shots at extreme range. They pierce minions, stop on the first champion, slow, and deal execute damage, with the 4th guaranteed to crit. Cooldown 120/105/90.

Think about where people stand in ARAM: in a group, in a corridor, behind their minions. Dancing Grenade bounces through up to four of them. Deadly Flourish passes through the minions and roots the first champion it meets, and in a lane where somebody on your team has always just hit somebody on theirs, the root condition is almost permanently met. Then there’s the trap. Captive Audience has a 2 second cooldown, and the Abyss has exactly one path to walk down, so the lane fills with lotus traps whether the enemy likes it or not. Where does it go wrong? He has 550 range, no dash and 105% damage taken. The catch is that the fifth enemy always seems to be the one with a gap closer.

What should a Jhin ARAM build focus on?

Damage per bullet. Whisper fires at a fixed rate, so attack speed does not give him more shots; what matters is how hard each of the four hits, which means Attack Damage, Critical Strike Chance and Lethality. Four items from the current patch, in order.

The Collector first: 50 Attack Damage, 10 Lethality and 25% Critical Strike Chance. Death executes champions below 5% Health, and Taxes grants 25 bonus gold per champion kill. A fourth shot already deals bonus execute damage; stacking an execute threshold on top of it means the low target your mage left behind is simply gone. Honestly, the gold matters more here, where every respawn is a shopping trip.

Second is Infinity Edge, and on Jhin it’s the item the passive was waiting for: 75 Attack Damage, 25% Critical Strike Chance and 30% Critical Strike Damage. Every fourth Whisper shot crits. The last Curtain Call shot crits. Critical Strike Damage is the one stat that improves both of those guaranteed hits without asking him to roll for them (he never rolls), and in practice few things in the shop move his damage per shot as far.

Rapid Firecannon is third, for the range rather than the attack speed. It gives 35% Attack Speed, 25% Critical Strike Chance and 4% Move Speed, and Sharpshooter makes your Energized Attack deal 40 bonus magic damage and gain 35% bonus Attack Range. Attack Speed won’t change Whisper’s fixed rate. The range does a lot. A Jhin who reaches further than 550 units on a charged shot is a Jhin who gets his first bullet off before the dive starts, and on this map the dive always starts.

Lord Dominik’s Regards finishes it: 35 Attack Damage, 35% Armor Penetration, 25% Critical Strike Chance, and Giant Slayer, up to 15% bonus damage against champions with bonus Health, maxing out at 1500 bonus Health. Somebody on the enemy team bought Health. Somebody always does (usually the one you wanted to kill). For boots, take Boots of Swiftness over Berserker’s Greaves: 55 Move Speed, with Fleetfooted cutting slows by 25%, because a marksman with no dash lives or dies on how fast he walks.

How do you play Jhin on the Howling Abyss?

  • Trap the choke, not the bush. Captive Audience is on a 2 second cooldown, and the enemy has to walk through the narrow parts of the lane whether they see the traps or not.
  • Root off your team’s hits. Deadly Flourish roots a target recently struck by your allies, so fire it the moment your tank lands anything.
  • Save the fourth shot for a champion. It crits and executes; spending it on a minion is the most common Jhin mistake on the Abyss.
  • Curtain Call from the fountain side of your turret. The shots have extreme range and pierce minions, so there’s no reason to channel where a dash can reach you.
  • Bounce Dancing Grenade through minions first. It gains damage each time it kills, and a low minion wave in front of a champion is a loaded grenade.

How do shopping and Mark change the game on the Howling Abyss?

Nobody recalls on the Abyss, so the shop is open to you at the start and after each death, and that’s all. Health between deaths comes from the relics along the lane and nowhere else. For Jhin that turns The Collector’s Taxes into something you actually feel: 25 bonus gold per kill, collected every time you respawn, moves the next item forward by a trip. Buy the Critical Strike component first when you can’t afford a full item. The passive doesn’t care what else you own; it crits on the fourth shot either way, and the crit damage item makes that shot bigger.

Mark is the mode’s own summoner spell: a thrown snowball, and a hit lets you dash to whoever it tagged. The choice locks before loading. On Jhin the dash is almost never the point, because dashing forward on a champion with 105% damage taken and no way back is how you spend a respawn timer thinking about your choices (we’ve all been there). The hit itself is the value, because the dash is an option, not an obligation: snowball, let your tank take the dash, root the target your tank just hit, four shots. Funny enough, the engage tool becomes a setup tool.

Is Jhin good in ARAM?

Yes, from the back. 90% damage and 105% damage taken is a real cut, and it exists because the kit fits the map too well: lines through minions, a root that’s nearly always armed, and traps on a 2 second cooldown in a lane with one path. What he can’t do is survive contact. 550 range, no dash, and a gun that fires at a fixed rate means the trade he loses is the one where somebody arrives.

The matchups that reach him are in the Jhin counters guide, written for the Rift but true here too. Our guide to LoL roles explains what the bot lane marksman is for. Stats and patch history for every item above are in the item database; cosmetics are on the Jhin skins page.

Long story short: trap the choke, root off your tank’s hit, count to four, and fire Curtain Call from where nobody can reach you. That’s the Jhin ARAM build earning its keep. Then you respawn, collect the Taxes, and buy the next crit item.

FAQ

Is Jhin nerfed in ARAM?

Yes, noticeably. For patch 26.21 the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data lists him at 90% damage dealt, 105% damage taken.

What items does the Jhin ARAM build use?

The Collector, Infinity Edge, Rapid Firecannon and Lord Dominik’s Regards, with Boots of Swiftness instead of Berserker’s Greaves.

Does attack speed help Jhin?

Not for firing faster. Whisper fires at a fixed rate and carries four shots, so the build favors Attack Damage, Critical Strike Chance and Lethality over Attack Speed.

How long is the Curtain Call cooldown?

120 seconds at rank 1, 105 at rank 2 and 90 at rank 3. The channel fires 4 super shots that pierce minions and stop on the first champion hit.

Is this build based on win rates?

No. It is an editorial pick from Jhin’s patch 26.21 ability text and the item data. We don’t use win-rate numbers.
