Kraken Slayer is a legendary on-hit item for attack-speed champions in League of Legends: 45 Attack Damage, 40% Attack Speed and 4% Move Speed for 3,000 gold in patch 26.21. Its passive, Bring It Down, makes every third basic attack deal bonus physical damage based on the target’s missing health.

What does Kraken Slayer do in practice?

Two words: sustained damage. The 45 AD and 40% Attack Speed give you a lot of right-click power in one slot, and the 4% Move Speed helps you stick to targets without needing a dash. Good stats on their own.

Bring It Down is the reason you buy it, though. Every third auto adds bonus physical damage on-hit, and that bonus increases the lower the target’s health gets. Thing is, it only shines if you’re attacking often enough to proc it repeatedly. One auto and a disengage won’t do much. But in a 6-second teamfight where you’re free-hitting? The passive damage adds up to far more than the stat gap on paper.

Is Kraken Slayer worth the gold?

At 96% gold efficiency from stats alone, sure, it looks like you’re losing gold. You aren’t. Here’s the math: 45 AD is worth 1,575 gold (35 gold per point), 40% Attack Speed is 1,000 gold (25 gold per percent), and 4% Move Speed is 300 gold (75 gold per percent). That’s 2,875 gold of raw stats for a 3,000 gold item.

Honestly, 125 gold short on paper. In practice, the Bring It Down passive covers that after a few autos in any real fight. You’re not overpaying.

What is the build path?

Hearthbound Axe at 1,200 gold is the biggest piece. Rectrix costs 775 gold and Recurve Bow is 700 gold, and once you have all three components the combine cost to finish is just 325 gold.

Three components plus a low combine cost lets you build across multiple backs, so you can recall with 800 gold and still come back with something useful. It doesn’t build into anything further, so once you finish it, that slot is done.

How has Kraken Slayer changed over recent patches?

It’s been in the game since patch 10.23, and Riot has reworked it more than once. The biggest shift came in patch 14.10, when Crit Chance was stripped out entirely and replaced with percent Move Speed (yes, it used to be a crit item). Recent changes, newest first:

  • Patch 25.14: cost 3,100 → 3,000 gold.
  • Patch 14.19: AD 50 → 45, Move Speed 5% → 4%.
  • Patch 14.15: Move Speed 7% → 5%, effect text changed.
  • Patch 14.10: cost 3,000 → 3,100, AD 40 → 50, Attack Speed 35% → 40%, Crit removed, 7% Move Speed added, effect reworked.
  • Patch 14.1: Attack Speed 30% → 35%.
  • Patch 13.10: cost 3,400 → 3,000, AD 65 → 40, Attack Speed 25% → 30%, effect text changed.

The current version has been stable since 25.14, so the numbers above should hold until the next big marksman item pass, whenever that comes.

Who should buy it and when?

On-hit marksmen and attack-speed fighters. Champions who auto-attack constantly, like Kog'Maw, Vayne or Kalista, get the most from Bring It Down because they proc it over and over in fights.

When should you skip it? If the enemy team has enough burst or crowd control to kill you before your third auto lands, the passive won’t save you. You need space to stand and auto, so if nobody’s peeling for you or you keep getting caught out, the item won’t carry you. If you can’t decide between on-hit and crit, tab the enemy team. Three tanks and a bruiser stacking health? Kraken Slayer pays for itself. If the other side is all squishies you need to pop, grab something else from the items list, which filters every legendary by stat.
