True Damage Akali

True Damage Akali might be the single most popular Epic skin in the game. Bold claim but think about how often you see this skin in your games. She was in the GIANTS music video alongside Ekko, Yasuo, Senna, and Qiyana. November 10, 2019 release. Alvin Lee did the splash. The neon streetwear look on Akali, a champion who already has the coolest kit in League, was an instant classic. Still see it in maybe a third of all Akali games I encounter in Diamond.

Neon streetwear on the rogue assassin

The model is peak Akali fashion. Neon cap, oversized jacket, street sneakers, face mask pulled down. The kama weapon has neon accents. She looks like she walked out of a Shibuya back alley at midnight which is essentially what the True Damage music video premise was going for. The attention to the streetwear details on this skin is something Riot really nailed. Every element of the outfit feels intentional rather than generic “cool outfit” design. Might be overthinking it but the sneaker detail on the model is genuinely impressive for a skin you mostly see from an overhead camera angle.

Five Point Strike on Q throws neon kunai in a cone. The particle effects are bright and distinct against the Rift. Twilight Shroud on W drops a smoke cloud with neon particle edges. The stealth ring boundary has True Damage branding effects that pulse. Shuriken Flip on E throws a neon shuriken that marks on hit, then dashes back. Perfect Execution on R dashes through enemies with a neon slash trail on both casts. R1 forward dash has a magenta trail, R2 execution has a brighter burst on kill.

Seven chromas: Ruby, Catseye, Emerald, Sapphire, Rose Quartz, Pearl, and Freestyle. The Freestyle chroma shifts the neon palette to warmer tones and was originally a special acquisition. Rose Quartz goes pink which works well with Akali’s model. No new voice lines. Krizia Bajos’s Akali voice applies. New recall with a True Damage-themed street dance animation. At 1350 RP in the shop.

The thing about True Damage Akali that keeps me coming back is how clean the shroud feels in teamfights. Twilight Shroud on W with the neon particle boundary gives you better visual feedback on where exactly the stealth zone ends than base does. When you are dancing in and out of shroud during a teamfight trying to reset your passive energy, having that crisp neon edge helps you stay inside the zone. Played a game last weekend where I sat in shroud at baron pit for what felt like an eternity, weaving autos on their frontline, and the neon pulse boundary let me track exactly where safe was while I kept poking. The R1 into shroud into passive auto into R2 execute combo plays out like a choreographed fight scene with these VFX.

Where True Damage sits among Akali’s many skins

Akali has Star Guardian at Legendary, K/DA and K/DA ALL OUT at Epic, PROJECT at Epic, and like ten other options. True Damage occupies this sweet spot where the skin is popular enough to be recognizable, stylish enough to never look dated, and affordable enough at 1350 RP that everyone can own it.

If you play Akali at all and you dont own this skin, I am honestly surprised. Its the default recommendation for a reason. Seven chromas give you variety and the base neon colorway is already strong. Not every skin needs to be the most expensive option to be the best. (random aside: I’ve faced True Damage Akali so many times in Diamond that seeing the neon W shroud drop in my lane triggers a fight-or-flight response at this point)

Part of the True Damage skinline. Permanent shop availability. The GIANTS music video still holds up years later and this skin carries that cultural moment with it. Spammed this in ranked for a solid month after release and the neon VFX never got old. 1350 RP is standard Epic pricing and for what is arguably the most iconic Epic skin in the entire game, thats a steal. First choice for Akali mains who want style without breaking the bank.
