First time I saw Slay Belle Katarina load in was maybe season 3 or 4, cant remember exactly. Someone on the enemy team locked her in during a December ranked grind and I spent half the laning phase watching the daggers instead of tracking cs. The holiday aesthetic on an assassin just works in a way you wouldnt expect. Not sure if it’s just me but there’s something about a Santa-themed killer that hits different on the Rift.
What Slay Belle Katarina actually brings
For a 975 RP skin this one punches above its weight class. New VFX on her abilities give the whole kit a festive red and green tint. Her Q dagger pickup has this subtle sparkle effect, and Shunpo leaves behind a brief shimmer. Nothing crazy detailed like you’d get from a Legendary, but enough that you notice it in teamfights. The recall animation is the standout feature here. Katarina pulls out a candy cane and does this little pose. Clean.
The model itself swaps her usual leather-and-blades look for a red holiday outfit with white fur trim. Think Santa’s assassin. The daggers get redesigned too, shorter and curved with a festive color scheme. Kinda feels like Riot had fun with this one instead of playing it safe. Her E still feels snappy, and the death lotus ult has enough visual flair to read well in a five-person dive without cluttering the screen.
Voice lines stay base, which is expected at this price point. Tara Platt’s standard Katarina VO carries it fine. Been running this skin on and off since I picked it up from a chest back in like season 8 or 9, and the base voice never felt out of place with the holiday visuals.
The Snowdown Showdown lineup and release history
Slay Belle Katarina dropped December 14, 2012. Early days for the Snowdown Showdown skinline. Concept Art House handled the artwork, and they nailed the splash. Katarina sitting on a chimney with daggers ready, snow falling around her. Good composition (random aside: this splash was my desktop background for an embarrassingly long time).
The Snowdown Showdown line is one of Riot’s longest running seasonal themes. Some of the skins in this collection aged rough, but Slay Belle Katarina holds up better than most from that era. Legacy vault skin, so you wont find it sitting in the shop year-round. It pops up during the winter event rotation or you get lucky with Hextech crafting. Real talk though, I’ve seen maybe two or three of these in my Diamond games all season. Most Katarina mains run the newer options.
Should you grab Slay Belle Katarina?
975 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, a solid recall, and a model that actually reads as a different fantasy from base Katarina. For a Standard tier skin from 2012 it holds up. Not gonna lie, I think it’s one of the better holiday skins in the game.
The competition is stiff though. Katarina has Battle Queen, High Noon, Faerie Court all fighting for your RP. If you main Katarina and you like collecting seasonal stuff, Slay Belle is worth grabbing when it rotates back into the vault sales. Played it last Tuesday in a late night ranked session and still enjoyed the feel. But if you only own one Katarina skin, the newer Legendaries and Epics offer more per dollar. For Kat one-tricks building a full collection, this one earns its spot. Skip it if holiday themes arent your thing, lock it in if you want something different for the winter grind.
