Not gonna lie, when Riot dropped Pool Party Rek’Sai back in 2015 I thought they were trolling. A giant sand shark in pool floaties? Played one game with it and immediately understood. The skin just works. Rek’Sai burrowing through the Rift wearing an inflatable shark fin is the kind of absurd that makes you laugh mid-teamfight. Been running this as my default Rek’Sai skin since season 5 and I keep coming back to it over every other option she has.
What Pool Party Rek’Sai actually changes
So the big thing here is the model swap. Rek’Sai goes from terrifying Void creature to beach-ready predator. She’s got pool floaties, a snorkel, the whole vacation kit strapped to a Void tunneler. The color palette shifts from purple-grey Void tones to bright tropical blues and oranges. Huge contrast.
The VFX got a proper overhaul for an Epic. Her Q in unburrowed form throws out splashes of water instead of the standard Void particles. Burrowed Q sends out a water ripple that reads cleanly in lane. W knockup erupts with a wave splash effect, and honestly thats one of the more satisfying things to land in the jungle. Feels like breaching out of a wave pool onto some poor ADC’s head.
Her tunnels look like little sand mounds with beach toys poking out. Small detail but it changes how the map feels when you’ve got six tunnels spread across the Rift. E in unburrowed is still the bite but the particles match the water theme. Voice lines stay base, no new VO on this one.
The recall animation is where the skin personality really shows. Rek’Sai builds a sandcastle, gets excited about it, then smashes it. Classic Rek’Sai energy. Played maybe 150 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the recall still gets me. Last week in a Diamond game I recalled in front of their tower after stealing dragon just to flex the animation. Worth the death timer? Probably not. Funny? Absolutely.
Pool Party line and the summer 2015 drop
Pool Party Rek’Sai released June 25, 2015. Right in the middle of summer, obviously. Sixmorevodka Studio nailed the splash, they captured that ridiculous energy of a Void creature trying to enjoy a beach day. The splash has her emerging from sand with swimmers panicking in the background. Good stuff.
The Pool Party skinline is one of Riot’s most reliable summer themes. Rek’Sai fits it better than you’d expect. Could be wrong here but I think she’s one of the more creative picks for the line because she’s not a human champion wearing a swimsuit. She IS the pool hazard. The shark fin floatie on her back sells the whole concept.
6 chromas total for this skin. Obsidian turns her dark and menacing which kinda defeats the fun vibe but some people dig it. Tanzanite is my go-to, the deep purple reads like a proper reef predator. Rose Quartz is surprisingly clean too, gives her this coral-pink look that pops against Summoner’s Rift green. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use the Rose Quartz because he says it’s “too cute for a jungler.” Whatever man.)
1350 RP puts this at standard Epic pricing. Shop has it permanently, no vault nonsense.
Is Pool Party Rek’Sai worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: if you play Rek’Sai at all, this is competing for her best skin. Might be overthinking it but I think the water VFX actually read slightly better than base in chaotic teamfights. The blue-orange color scheme stands out against most map textures. Been spamming Rek’Sai in Diamond this season and Pool Party is still in my rotation over Blackfrost and Elderwood.
The skin does what an Epic should do. New model, new VFX, new recall. No new voice lines but Rek’Sai barely speaks human language anyway so that’s fine. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Kinda feels like this is the Rek’Sai skin for people who dont take themselves too seriously. You’re playing a burrowing land shark. Lean into it.
For Rek’Sai mains specifically, this is a must-own. For jungle players who pick her situationally, maybe wait for a sale. But I’ve had this since release day, season 5 I think, and it’s never left my collection. Top pick for Rek’Sai mains who want personality over edge. Simple choice.
