Blackfrost Rek'Sai - Splash, Price & Chromas

First time I locked in Blackfrost Rek’Sai was maybe two days after it dropped in March 2020. Loaded into a ranked game, tunneled into the enemy jungle at level 3, and immediately noticed how different the burrowed form felt. Not gameplay different. Visually different. The frozen corruption running through Rek’Sai’s model just reads so cleanly against the Rift. Been running this as my default Rek’Sai skin ever since.

What Blackfrost changes on Rek’Sai

The entire model gets this dark ice treatment. Rek’Sai looks like she crawled out of a frozen void rift somewhere in the Freljord, which I think is the whole point of the Blackfrost line. The armor plating across her back and fins shifts to deep blue-black crystalline textures. Claws get the frost treatment too.

Q in unburrowed form throws out these sharp ice particle effects. Clean and readable. W knockup has a frost burst that honestly looks better than it has any right to at 1350 RP. Could be wrong here but I think the E tunnel entrance also got updated particles, there’s a frozen residue effect when you create new tunnels that wasnt there on base. The burrowed Q tremor sense ping keeps its functionality but the visual pulse has that Blackfrost blue tint.

Recall animation is new. Worth watching once. Rek’Sai does this thing where ice erupts around her. Solid stuff. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this tier. For an Epic skin the VFX package carries it hard. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season in Diamond and the ability readability never caused issues. Some skins make it harder to track your own abilities in a chaotic teamfight but Blackfrost keeps everything distinct.

The Blackfrost line and where Rek’Sai fits

Released March 5, 2020. Season 10 if I remember right. West Studio handled the artwork, and the splash captures the vibe perfectly. Rek’Sai bursting through frozen ground with that menacing silhouette. Might be overthinking it but the composition reminds me of the Blackfrost Vel’Koz splash in how it frames the creature emerging from ice.

The Blackfrost skinline is one of those themes that works better on monster champions. Anivia got the Legendary treatment years earlier, Renekton got one too. Rek’Sai fits naturally into the frozen corruption fantasy. She’s already a void burrower, adding ice corruption to that kit just makes sense thematically. Not every skinline translates well to every champ but this one lands.

7 chromas total. Obsidian goes full dark mode which honestly looks cleaner than base for the edgy jungle mains out there. Rose Quartz is the wildcard pick, turns the whole frozen horror aesthetic into something weirdly pastel. Pearl is the safe choice if you want to lighten up the palette without going full pink. (Random aside: I ran Rose Quartz in a clash tournament once and my team thought I was trolling in champ select.) The rest fill out the collection but those three are the ones worth caring about.

Is Blackfrost Rek’Sai worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you play Rek’Sai at all, this is probably the skin. Eternum exists and has the Legendary pricetag with the full VO package, but Blackfrost hits a sweet spot where you get meaningful VFX changes and a strong thematic at Epic pricing. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get.

Rek’Sai mains are a small but dedicated crowd. Seen maybe five other Rek’Sai players in my games all this split and three of them were using Blackfrost. That says something. The skin reads well during ganks, the tunnel VFX dont clutter your screen during jungle clear, and the frozen aesthetic gives Rek’Sai a presence she doesn’t always have with the base model. Shop has it, permanent availability.

Skip Elderwood unless you really love the treant look. Blackfrost is the Rek’Sai skin if you can only own one. Been daily driving it for years now and kinda feels like nothing else in her catalog competes at this price point. S-tier jungle cosmetic for a champion that deserved better skin treatment from the start. Real talk though, Rek’Sai needs more skins in general. Five total for a champ released in 2014 is rough.
