First time I saw Eternum Rek’Sai load into a game I thought someone modded in a Battlestar Galactica Cylon. Not gonna lie, Rek’Sai already looks alien enough in her base form, but this skin cranks the sci-fi dial so far it breaks. Played maybe 40 games with it in Diamond last season and the VFX alone changed how I felt about clearing camps. Something about glowing red particle effects just makes jungle clear feel faster even when its not.
The VFX carry this skin hard
For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the visual overhaul here is solid. Rek’Sai gets a full mechanical redesign. Gone is the organic Void creature, replaced with this sleek robotic predator covered in dark metal plating and red energy lines. The burrowed form especially looks clean. When you tunnel with E underground the trail leaves these red circuit-like patterns on the ground that I think look better than anything her other skins offer.
Q in unburrowed form shoots out these red energy bolts instead of the base purple Void projectiles. Simple change – huge impact. W knockup has a satisfying mechanical burst effect, almost like hydraulics firing. Been maining Rek’Sai on and off since season 5 and the Eternum W animation is still the crispest feeling unburrow in her kit across all skins.
Recall animation is where Riot put in extra work. Rek’Sai does this full mechanical transformation sequence, parts shifting and rearranging. Feels like watching a Transformer. (Random aside: I used to leave the recall playing just to watch it during backs in season 10 or 11 dont remember exactly.) Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this price point. The skin does have a slight audio filter on her screeches though, giving them a more metallic edge that fits the theme.
Eternum line and where Rek’Sai fits
Released December 11, 2014. Early into Rek’Sai’s life honestly, she came out that same patch cycle if I remember right. Michal Ivan and Sixmorevodka Studio handled the splash and they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash shows her mid-burrow erupting from some kind of metallic wasteland. Real menacing energy.
The Eternum skinline is one of those smaller Riot lines that never got huge but has a cult following. Eternum Nocturne and Eternum Cassiopeia sit in the same universe. Kinda feels like Riot wanted their own Terminator-meets-Alien aesthetic and the Eternum skins deliver on that. Rek’Sai fits the line naturally because her base design already reads as predatory and insectoid. Adding the mechanical layer just works.
No chromas available for this one. Zero. Could be wrong here but I think Riot just never circled back to older Epic skins for chroma passes the way they do now. Shame because a blue or green Eternum variant would go hard.
Worth 1350 RP or skip?
Permanent shop skin, available any time. For Rek’Sai mains this is the conversation that always comes up. Eternum versus Blackfrost versus Pool Party. Real talk though, Eternum is the tryhard pick. Pool Party is the “I’m having fun” pick. Blackfrost is the flex.
I ran into maybe two other Eternum Rek’Sai players all of last Tuesday’s session and both were in Platinum lobbies ganking bot lane like their life depended on it. Thats the energy this skin attracts. The VFX are distinct enough that enemy laners can read your abilities differently, which matters for engage timing in teamfights. Not a competitive advantage exactly but the red particles on your tunnel are more visible to teammates for coordination.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, new VFX on all abilities, new recall. Standard Epic package executed well. If you one-trick Rek’Sai or play her as a jungle pocket pick this season, Eternum is a top two skin for her. The mechanical aesthetic aged better than I expected for a 2014 release. Overpriced? No. Best Rek’Sai skin full stop? Depends on your taste. But for the peel-and-dive playstyle where you’re tunneling into the backline pre-6 to set up ganks, the red VFX just hit different on this one. Solo queue staple for a reason.
