Blood Moon Twisted Fate

Blood Moon as a skinline has this specific energy that works on some champions and falls flat on others. On Twisted Fate it works. The card-throwing gambler meets Japanese demon mask aesthetic creates something that feels like it belongs in a Kurosawa film. February 9, 2017 release. Viktor Titov and Grafit Studio did the splash showing TF mid-card-throw with Blood Moon energy swirling around him. Still one of the more atmospheric Epic skin splashes in the game.

Demon cards in mid lane

The model puts Twisted Fate in Blood Moon ceremonial robes with the signature oni mask pushed up on his forehead. Dark reds and golds, flowing fabric. The cards he throws are redesigned with Blood Moon symbols instead of the standard playing card suits. Wild Cards on Q fans out three Blood Moon cards with red energy trails. The hitbox reads the same but the visual is more ominous. Darker.

Pick A Card on W is the iconic ability and Blood Moon handles it well. The cycling cards above TF’s head show Blood Moon variants for gold, blue, and red. Gold card stun has a red-gold burst. Blue card mana restore has a subtle blue-red effect. Red card AOE slow fans out with Blood Moon particle effects. Stacked Deck passive procs with a Blood Moon charge indicator. Destiny on R reveals all enemies with Blood Moon eye effects on the map and the teleport has a demon energy swirl on arrival.

No new voice lines. Owen Thomas’s Twisted Fate voice applies. New recall with Blood Moon ritual energy effects. 1350 RP for an Epic with new VFX on all abilities and a thematic recall. No chromas on this one.

Blood Moon line and positioning

Part of the Blood Moon skinline which includes Thresh, Akali, Diana, Yasuo, and others. Blood Moon TF released February 9, 2017 at 1350 RP. Still available in the shop. The Blood Moon line is one of Riot’s longest-running thematic series and TF fits the aesthetic naturally because the card manipulation already has a mystical quality that the demon mask amplifies.

One thing I dont see people mention enough about Blood Moon TF is how the W card cycling feels in lane. When you are trading in mid and you need to lock gold card quickly, the Blood Moon card visuals have this slightly different color ramp that I think makes the gold card easier to lock consistently. Could be wrong about that, might just be the color contrast against the mid lane terrain, but after maybe 30 games on this skin I started landing gold cards faster than on base. The red energy trailing off a gold card stun into a full Q combo at level 6 with Ignite is one of the cleanest kill setups for TF mains. Pulled this exact combo on a Zed who was pushing mid carelessly last Tuesday and the Blood Moon particles made the whole sequence look filthy.

Good mid-lane skin pick

Twisted Fate has a deep catalog including Crime City Nightmare, Odyssey, and Space Groove at Epic tier plus the old The Magnificent TF at Legendary. Blood Moon occupies a specific tonal space that none of the others touch. If you want the dark, serious, mystical TF experience, Blood Moon is it. The other skins lean comedic, futuristic, or noir. This one goes straight to the spiritual.

At 1350 RP with no chromas its standard Epic pricing. Good value for TF mains who want something atmospheric. The W card cycling in Blood Moon colors alone is worth checking out.
