The Pulsefire line has some clear misses in it – Pulsefire Corki is the obvious example – but Pulsefire Twisted Fate is not one of them. Been running this in Diamond since patch 8.10 and it holds up against newer Epics better than you’d expect from a 2018 release. Something about TF’s card mechanic translates naturally into the sci-fi data aesthetic, and Riot clearly felt that too. Lock-in if you main the champion.
What the Pulsefire treatment does to Twisted Fate’s kit
Gold Card is the obvious highlight and it delivers. The W charges glow with Pulsefire’s signature blue-white energy pulse, each card state visually distinct when you’re cycling through a teamfight. When the gold proc lands on a backline carry, there’s a reactor-core lockdown visual that reads satisfying every single time. Had a game last Wednesday around 1 AM where I gold carded their Jinx right before her ult animation completed – the skin made it look genuinely cinematic.
Q scatter feels crisper than base too. Cards have a sharper edge on the projectile arc, more deliberate poke throw feeling. Stacked Deck, the E passive proc, gets a proper tech glow during the charge cycle that makes it readable mid-lane in a way base TF honestly doesn’t. Small thing. Big improvement.
The R is where it gets interesting. Gate animation is full Pulsefire: a mechanical time-portal sequence that stays readable even in a messy dive or teamfight engage. Not the most complex ult visual in the skinline – dont overthink that comparison with Pulsefire Thresh – but Twisted Fate’s version feels conceptually earned. The card-slinger stepping through a temporal gate just works.
New recall included in the package. Not gonna lie, it’s one of the better Epic recalls in the game right now. Twisted Fate steps through some kind of displacement sequence and the animation loops satisfyingly clean. Spent probably 30 games watching it cycle in base before remembering I should be cs-ing. New VFX across the board, but voice stays default Owen Thomas – base VO, no refresh. Fine by me.
Jojo So, the May 2018 release, and the Pulsefire skinline
Released May 17, 2018, right in patch 8.10 territory. Jojo So handled the splash art and they cooked. The piece has Twisted Fate mid-draw against a massive Pulsefire tech backdrop, gunslinger energy completely intact. Works great as a loading screen – opponents in my Diamond games have commented on it, which is always the real sign of a quality splash.
The Pulsefire skinline started back with Caitlyn in 2012 and has grown into one of the game’s bigger sci-fi collections. Twisted Fate slots into it better than some later additions to the line. The card mechanic reads as data-manipulation within the Pulsefire lore and that conceptual fit gives the skin a cohesion that a lot of Epics miss. (sidebar: this splash has been my phone wallpaper for longer than I want to admit, Jojo So really captured the energy)
There’s one Chrono chroma available. Just the one option. Dark navy and deep red palette that leans into a shadowy-operative aesthetic harder than the base blue scheme. Chrono actually reads cleaner in certain map lighting. Shop has it permanently.
Is Pulsefire Twisted Fate worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: yes, easily. Pulsefire Twisted Fate delivers a complete particle overhaul, a new recall, and skinline cohesion that holds up years later. The Gold Card stun visual is arguably the best W proc animation Twisted Fate has across his entire skin catalog. If you’re spamming him in mid lane and poking into comps with isolated backline targets, having that Gold Card look that good matters to the overall experience.
Could be wrong here but I’d rank this in the top half of Pulsefire skins overall – better than a few of the newer entries to the line. Standard 1350 RP Epic, earns every RP of it. First choice for Twisted Fate mains, straightforward call.
