Pulsefire Lucian

First time I saw Pulsefire Lucian load in, I thought somebody was running a custom skin mod. The blue-gold armor plating and those holographic light pistols looked way too clean for a 1350 RP skin. Locked it in that same night after a ranked session around 1 AM and honestly havent looked back since. Something about the futuristic gunslinger fantasy just clicks with Lucian’s kit in a way most of his skins dont pull off.

How Pulsefire changes Lucian’s kit

The VFX overhaul is the main selling point here. Every ability gets the Pulsefire treatment with these sharp blue-white energy trails. Q fires a concentrated beam that reads cleaner than base Lucian’s Piercing Light. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox visual actually matches better on this skin compared to default. The indicator just feels more honest.

W is where it gets interesting. The Ardent Blaze projectile has this pulsing tech aesthetic, kind of like a miniature drone scanning the area. When it pops, the mark on enemies shows up as a holographic target. Clean read in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to proc your passive on the right backline target.

E dash leaves behind a trail of blue digital particles. Not as flashy as some Legendary skins but the animation feels smooth. Spammed this in Diamond for maybe 30 games straight last season and the dash-auto weaving felt responsive. No weird animation cancels or clunky frames that some skins introduce.

R though. The Culling on Pulsefire Lucian fires these rapid energy bolts that light up your screen. Looks like you’re channeling some sci-fi railgun. Used it to shred through a Yone diving me in bot lane last week and my support pinged the skin asking what it was. Real talk though, the ult VFX alone carries this skin hard. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the sound design on abilities compensates. Each auto has a satisfying tech-ping to it.

Recall animation puts Lucian on some kind of time platform. He does the dual pistol flourish while the Pulsefire tech assembles around him. Short and stylish. Not the most elaborate recall but it fits the theme without overstaying.

The Pulsefire line and release context

Pulsefire Lucian dropped May 14, 2020. Mid-season 10. Xuning Cui and Kudos Productions handled the splash, and they captured the time-cop energy perfectly. Lucian standing there with the gold-trimmed armor, pistols drawn, looking like he just stepped out of a different timeline. Banger splash.

The Pulsefire skinline is one of Riot’s older sci-fi themes going back to Pulsefire Ezreal in 2012. Lucian fits the line naturally. The whole “chrono-enforcer with dual weapons” angle plays into the time travel cop fantasy that Pulsefire builds around. Other Pulsefire skins like Thresh and Shen exist in the same universe but I think Lucian wears it best of the non-Legendary releases. (Random aside: the Pulsefire universe lore is actually deeper than most people realize, worth a wiki read if you’re into that.)

No chromas on this one. Zero. Kinda surprising given how many Epic skins from 2020 got chroma packs. Maybe Riot felt the blue-gold palette was definitive enough. Not gonna lie, a darker variant would have been sick but the base colors work fine on their own.

Should you pick up Pulsefire Lucian?

This Epic skin sits at 1350 RP. Shop has it, permanent availability, grab it whenever. For what you get, new VFX on every ability plus the recall, 1350 feels fair for the package. Not the cheapest Lucian option but you’re paying for that full visual overhaul.

Been maining Lucian with this skin on and off since season 11. If you play ADC and want a futuristic aesthetic without dropping 1820 on a Legendary, Pulsefire Lucian is the pick. High Noon Lucian exists as the flashier alternative with the Western theme but Pulsefire hits different if you prefer the clean tech look. Might be overthinking it but I think the VFX clarity on Pulsefire actually gives you a slight edge in lane because ability indicators read so precisely.

Skip it if you already own Project Lucian since the sci-fi overlap is real. But if you’re a Lucian one-trick looking for variety in your skin rotation, this belongs in there. Top pick for Lucian mains who want something modern without going full Legendary price. Been daily driving this one through Diamond and it still feels fresh 6 seasons later.
