Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ability Haste | 10 | 50 g | 500 g |
| Move Speed | 45 | 12 g | 540 g |
| Total stat value | 1040 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 1040 ÷ 900 = 116%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity are 900 gold boots in League of Legends built around cooldowns: 10 Ability Haste and 45 Move Speed in patch 26.21. The Ionian Insight passive adds 10 Summoner Spell Haste, so Flash and your other summoner spell come back sooner. They upgrade into Crimson Lucidity later in the game.
What do Ionian Lucidity boots do?
They shorten two kinds of cooldowns. Ability Haste lowers the cooldowns of your champion’s abilities, and the Summoner Spell Haste from Ionian Insight does the same for your two summoner spells.
Summoner Spell Haste is the part people underrate. Flash has one of the longest cooldowns you’ll manage in a game, and every second shaved off it means more fights where you have it ready. Teleport, Ignite and Exhaust benefit too. Small number, sure. It applies all game long, though (from the minute you buy them to the last fight).
The Move Speed is the standard amount for tier-two boots, so you lose nothing on mobility compared with other options. What you give up is a combat stat like Magic Penetration, Attack Speed or a resistance.
Are Ionian Boots gold efficient?
Yes, at 116%. The two stats are worth 1,040 gold, more than the 900 gold price, and the summoner spell passive comes on top.
Ability Haste is priced off Glowing Mote (50 gold per point), so 10 of it comes to 500 gold; the 45 Move Speed, at 12 gold a point from basic Boots, comes to 540 gold. Honestly, few boots cover their price on stats this easily. Ability Haste is just an expensive stat.
What do they build from and into?
Basic Boots (300 gold) plus a Glowing Mote (250 gold), then a 350 gold combine. Later you can upgrade them into Crimson Lucidity, the tier-three version, once you have gold to spare. Thing is, most games end before that upgrade becomes a priority (well, mostly).
How have Ionian Boots changed?
They’ve been around since 2013 or earlier in Riot’s data, and the history is mostly small cost and Ability Haste moves:
- Patch 11.1: Ability Haste 15 → 20, effect text changed.
- Patch 14.1: cost 950 → 900 gold, Ability Haste 20 → 15.
- 14.15 raised the cost to 1,000 gold.
- Patch 14.19: cost 1,000 → 900 gold, Ability Haste 15 → 10.
Patch 14.19 made them cheaper and weaker at the same time, which is a common Riot move for boots. Ability Haste has halved since the patch 11.1 peak (20 down to today’s figure). Want the rest? The table above lists all of it. Our LoL items database keeps records like this for every boot upgrade too.
Who should buy Ionian Lucidity boots?
Champions whose damage or utility depends on casting abilities often: many supports, mages who rely on spell rotations, and fighters who play around cooldowns. Supports especially. They rarely need a combat stat from boots, and a support with Flash up for every engage or every save is worth a lot more to the team than one with a slightly tankier pair of shoes (Plated Steelcaps and Mercury’s Treads still win some lane matchups, to be fair).
Mages who need to burst through Magic Resist may prefer Sorcerer’s Shoes instead, and marksmen almost always take Attack Speed boots. So which one? Ask yourself whether you’d rather hit harder once or cast more often. If it’s casting more often, Ionian Boots of Lucidity are the pick, and they’re usually bought right after your first item.
