Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attack Damage | 40 | 35 g | 1400 g |
| Attack Speed % | 25 | 25 g | 625 g |
| Life Steal % | 10 | 53.57 g | 536 g |
| Total stat value | 2561 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 2561 ÷ 3200 = 80%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted.

Blade of the Ruined King is a 3,200 gold on-hit item in League of Legends: 40 Attack Damage, 25% Attack Speed and 10% Life Steal in patch 26.21. Mist’s Edge makes every attack deal a percentage of the target’s current Health as bonus physical damage, and Clawing Shadows slows a champion by 30% for 1 second after your third hit.
What does the Ruined King blade (BotRK) do?
It punishes high-Health targets. Mist’s Edge adds bonus physical damage on every attack, scaled on the enemy’s current Health, so the item hits hardest at the start of a fight and against tanks and bruisers with big Health bars.
Current Health is the important word. Against a full-Health tank, each hit adds a lot. Against a marksman already at a sliver, the bonus is small. That’s why players call it a tank-shredding item, and why it often sits in builds of fighters and marksmen who duel frontliners. Riot’s data text doesn’t list the percentage, so the in-game tooltip shows the number for melee and ranged users.
Life Steal on top keeps you healthy while you trade. Short trades or long ones? Long, ideally (the healing adds up over many autos).
How does the Clawing Shadows slow work?
Hit the same champion 3 times and they’re slowed by 30% for 1 second. It’s a sticking tool: the slow makes it harder for a target to walk out of range between your attacks, especially for melee champions chasing with autos (ranged users get it too, and kiting gets easier).
Thing is, it needs three hits, so it rewards staying on one target rather than spreading damage.
Is BotRK gold efficient?
Not on raw stats, at 80%. The stats are worth 2,561 gold against 3,200 gold, leaving 639 gold for the two passives.
Working it out with basic item prices from the same patch, 40 Attack Damage is worth 1,400 gold at 35 gold per point, 25% Attack Speed 625 gold at 25 gold per 1%, and 10% Life Steal 536 gold at 53.57 gold per 1%. The value is in Mist’s Edge, which can’t be priced against a basic item (it scales with the enemy, not with you). Against a team of tanks, it’s worth far more than the number suggests, because every hit on a full-Health frontliner gets the biggest version of that bonus.
What does it build from?
Vampiric Scepter (900 gold), Recurve Bow (700) and Pickaxe (875), plus a 725 gold combine. Vampiric Scepter also goes into Mercurial Scimitar, the item marksmen pick up later against crowd control. Nothing builds out of the finished Blade.
What changed in recent patches?
The item has been in Riot’s data since 2013 or earlier, and most of its recent history is Life Steal and Attack Damage tuning:
- Patch 10.23: name changed to Blade of The Ruined King, cost 3,300 → 3,100 gold.
- Patch 14.10: Attack Damage 40 → 55, Attack Speed 25% → 30%, Life Steal 8% → 10%.
- 14.16 dropped Attack Damage to 50 and Attack Speed back to 25%.
- Patch 14.19: Attack Damage 50 → 40.
Funny enough, patch 14.19 put the Attack Damage right back where it started before the patch 14.10 buff, so that whole summer was a round trip. The complete table is above, and our LoL items database lists the same kind of record for the rest of the shop.
Who should buy the Ruined King blade?
On-hit marksmen and fighters who auto attack a lot, especially when the enemy team has two or more tanks or bruisers with large Health pools. The more Health the enemy stacks, the better Mist’s Edge gets, which makes it one of the few damage items that scales with the opponent’s build instead of your own.
Against a squishy team, skip it, to be fair, since a crit or Lethality item kills low-Health targets faster. Not sure which role leans on autos? Our guide to LoL roles covers that. In practice, the Ruined King blade is a first or second item on champions that win extended duels, and a later pickup for marksmen who need tank damage.
