Soul Fighter Jhin

First game I played with Soul Fighter Jhin was around 3 AM on a random Wednesday, and I remember thinking Riot finally let Jhin be flashy without making him look ridiculous. The whole Soul Fighter event dropped August 3, 2023, mid-season 13, and Jhin fit the fighting game aesthetic better than most of the roster. Not gonna lie, when I saw the splash I expected another generic action skin. Was wrong.

What the skin actually changes on Jhin

The VFX overhaul is where this Epic earns its 1350 RP. Jhin’s Q bounces carry this bright energy trail that reads clean in teamfights without cluttering your screen. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and the W snare indicator feels crisper than base, which matters when you’re trying to proc that root on a marked target from max range.

E traps get the Soul Fighter treatment too. They sit on the ground with that purple-gold fighting game energy, and honestly they’re slightly harder to spot in river. Could be wrong here but I think the trap visibility is genuinely lower than default Jhin traps in certain terrain. Your R curtain call shots have new projectile trails and the fourth shot lands with a satisfying burst effect. Big improvement over base.

The recall animation leans into the tournament fighter fantasy. Jhin strikes these dramatic poses like he’s selecting his character on a fighting game screen. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the skin doesnt really need it. Jhin’s base voice is already S-tier so keeping it untouched was the right call.

(Random aside: my duo partner who mains ADC literally bought this skin because of the recall animation alone and I cant even argue with that logic.)

The Soul Fighter line and release context

Soul Fighter as a skinline pulled from fighting game culture hard. Think Street Fighter meets League. The event brought a whole 2D fighting game mode with it back in summer 2023. Eric Xie and West Studio handled the splash, and they cooked. The composition captures Jhin mid-performance which fits his whole “art is murder” thing perfectly.

9 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark palette makes Jhin look like a final boss character, which feels right for the fighting game theme. Amethyst hits harder than you’d expect, the deep purple reads well against the Rift. The Limitless chroma has this silver-purple combo thats pretty unique across his skin catalog.

Soul Fighter Jhin sits in the shop permanently. Available any time. Season 13 patch, right in the middle of summer. The skinline included Sett, Gwen, Lux, and a bunch of others but Jhin felt like one of the better executions in the set. Maybe just my experience but the fighting game aesthetic matches his dramatic personality more naturally than champions who got shoved into the theme.

Is Soul Fighter Jhin worth 1350 RP?

Real talk though. Jhin has some of the best skins in the entire game. High Noon Jhin exists. Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin exists. Project Jhin exists. So where does Soul Fighter land? Somewhere in the upper middle for me.

The VFX carry this skin. New particles on every ability, clean recall, solid splash. For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP it delivers what you’d expect and slightly more. Played maybe 40 games with it last season in bot lane specifically and the auto attack animations feel smooth. Fourth shot still has that weight to it.

If you’re a Jhin one-trick you probably already own this. If you’re picking up Jhin and want one skin, I’d still point you toward High Noon or Dark Cosmic first. But if you already have those and want variety in your rotation, Soul Fighter Jhin is a clean pickup. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip it if you only play Jhin occasionally, but for mains who lock in the Virtuoso every other game in ranked, it’s a strong addition. Been keeping it in my skin rotation alongside DWG Jhin for months now and I keep coming back to it more than I expected.
