Locked in Pool Party Taliyah on a whim back in summer 2020 and honestly wasnt expecting much. Taliyah skins were rare at that point, she had Freljord and SSG and that was basically it. So when Riot finally gave her a Pool Party treatment I figured why not. First game loading in, the splash hit me. Sean ‘Raiko’ Tay and West Studio nailed the splash, the surfboard recall and the whole beach vibe just works for a champion who throws rocks around.

What Pool Party Taliyah actually changes

This is an Epic tier skin so you get new VFX across the board plus a new recall animation. No new voice lines, voice stays default. The Q is the star here. Instead of rock shards Taliyah flings water balloons or something close to that, these bright teal projectiles that pop on impact. Feels cleaner than base in terms of visual clarity which I think actually matters when you’re trying to cs in lane or poke through minion waves.

Her W, the ground displacement, has this sandy beach eruption effect. Kinda feels like a wave crashing up from under the Rift. Not sure if it’s just me but I swear the W feels more satisfying to land with this skin. Placebo probably. The E mines become little sand castles or beach toys scattered across the ground, and when enemies walk through them the pop effect is solid. Clean read, fun theme.

The R is where it gets interesting. Taliyah’s wall ride becomes this wave surfing animation and the wall itself has that ocean water texture. Been running this in Diamond ranked and I will say the wall VFX sometimes blends into river terrain a tiny bit. Not game breaking but worth mentioning if you play her mid and roam through river a lot. (Random aside: my duo partner thought I was playing a different champion entirely when he first saw the ult from fog of war.)

Recall animation has her surfing on a board and building a sandcastle. Short and sweet. Nothing crazy but fits the Pool Party line perfectly.

The Pool Party skinline and release context

Pool Party Taliyah dropped July 2, 2020. Right in the middle of summer, season 10. The Pool Party line is one of Riot’s longest running seasonal themes and Taliyah fits it better than most champions in the set. Rock surfing translates naturally to wave surfing. The whole earth manipulation kit just maps onto sand and water without feeling forced.

7 chromas total. Amethyst is my go-to because the purple water effects against the green Rift just pop in a way the base teal doesnt quite match. Ruby runs that aggressive red coral look which reads well in teamfights. Catseye gives you this bright yellow sunny vibe that honestly looks cleaner than the base skin in certain lighting. Rest of them are fine but those three stood out after maybe 40 games of testing different ones last season.

1350 RP. Standard Epic pricing. Shop has it, permanent availability so no rushing to grab it during some limited event window. For a champion who went years without skin options this was a big deal when it released. Taliyah mains were starving for content around that time.

Should you pick up Pool Party Taliyah?

Real talk though. If you play Taliyah in any capacity this skin is worth the 1350 RP. Could be wrong here but I think it’s the best Taliyah skin for visual clarity specifically. SSG has the esports prestige factor, Freljord is solid but dated, and the newer options like Star Guardian and Crystalis Motus went in different directions thematically. Pool Party sits in this sweet spot where it’s fun without being over the top.

Been maining Taliyah with this equipped for most of season 12 and 13 on and off. The skin holds up. Two patches ago I switched to Crystalis Motus for a week and came right back. Something about the water balloon Q just feels right when you’re spamming abilities in a jungle clear or poking from backline in a teamfight.

Skip this if you only play Taliyah once every 30 games. But for mains and one-tricks? 1350 RP well spent. The chromas add longevity too, seven options means you can rotate based on mood. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across two seasons and it still doesnt feel stale. That says something for an Epic tier cosmetic. Banger skin for a champion who deserved better from Riot’s skin team for way too long.
