First time I saw this skin pop up in the Mythic shop rotation I had to do a double take. Taliyah getting a Mythic? Not gonna lie, felt like Riot finally remembered she exists. Been maining Taliyah on and off since season 8, mostly jungle but mid too when the matchup is right, and the base skin was getting stale around game 400. Crystalis Motus Taliyah dropped and I locked it in immediately.
The VFX overhaul and what it actually does in game
So the Crystalis Motus line has this whole crystalline mineral aesthetic going on, and on Taliyah it works better than I expected. Her Q rocks transform into these jagged crystal shards that feel heavier when they land. Hard to explain but there’s a visual weight to the projectiles now that base Taliyah doesnt have. The worked ground indicator gets this subtle crystal lattice texture over it, which honestly helps me track my zones better in chaotic teamfights.
W is where it gets interesting. The ground eruption has these sharp geometric crystal formations shooting up, and the displacement looks more violent. Played maybe 30 games with it the first week it dropped and I kept thinking the knockup was longer. It’s not. Just looks meaner.
E mines scatter as crystal clusters across the lane. Clean visual. Easy to read for you, harder for the enemy to judge the exact hitbox. Could be wrong here but I think the slight visual ambiguity on E actually gives you a micro-advantage in Diamond games where people are used to dodging base Taliyah mines on autopilot.
The R wall is the standout. Massive crystalline wave that cuts across the Rift looking like a geological event. Rode it down bot lane last Thursday around midnight in a ranked game and my support pinged it three times just because it looked cool. The recall animation is new too, Taliyah sculpting crystals in this meditative pose. Short but clean.
Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which for a Mythic feels acceptable but not ideal. Erica Lindbeck’s original performance holds up fine though.
Crystalis Motus as a skinline and where Taliyah fits
The Crystalis Motus line is one of Riot’s more understated thematic sets. Not flashy like Spirit Blossom or loud like PROJECT. More of a geological fantasy direction. Taliyah is a natural fit because her whole kit is about rock manipulation already, so the crystal upgrade reads as an evolution rather than a costume change. That matters when you’re spamming a champion for hundreds of games in a season.
Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the artwork. They captured this cool balance between power and serenity in the splash. Taliyah standing among crystal formations with that quiet confidence. Check the background detail, there’s layered mineral structures that suggest a whole world behind her. (Random aside: I cropped the splash for my Discord avatar and three people asked me what anime it was from.)
Released September 13, 2023. Late into season 13, right around Worlds hype. Mythic tier means Special pricing, you’re getting this through Mythic Essence in the rotating shop, not regular RP purchase. Available now but only when it cycles through the Mythic rotation, so timing matters.
The Reclaimed chroma situation
One chroma total. Just the Reclaimed variant. Light icy blue primary with dark undertones. Kinda feels like they took the crystal theme and pushed it toward a frost direction. I actually prefer the base Crystalis Motus color palette over Reclaimed for most games, the warmer mineral tones read better against Summoner’s Rift green. But the Reclaimed chroma hits different on ARAM where the Howling Abyss backdrop makes those cool blues pop.
Only having one chroma for a Mythic skin is thin. Real talk though, most Mythic skins ship with zero or one chroma so it’s standard for the tier. Not a dealbreaker.
Should you spend Mythic Essence on this?
Okay, the real question. Taliyah has a small skin pool. Freljord is basic. SSG is legacy. Pool Party is fine but dated. Star Guardian is the main competition and it’s solid. Crystalis Motus sits at or near the top for me.
The VFX changes on Q and R genuinely improve the gameplay feel. Not talking about competitive advantage, just the satisfaction of landing combos. Been running this as my default Taliyah skin since it dropped in 2023 and I keep coming back to it over Star Guardian. The crystal aesthetic ages well visually, no neon glow that gets old after 50 games.
If you’re a Taliyah one-trick or even someone who picks her regularly in jungle or mid, this is worth the Mythic Essence. If you play her twice a season, probably save your essence for something else. The skin earns its Mythic status through cohesive design rather than flashy gimmicks. Might be overthinking it but I think thats exactly what a Taliyah skin should be. Quiet confidence, strong execution, rocks hit hard. Top pick for Taliyah mains and I dont see that changing until Riot drops a Legendary for her, which at this rate could be season 20.
