First time I saw SSG Taliyah load in, I thought Riot actually gave the Worlds skins some real love for once. Been playing Taliyah on and off since season 8 and this one caught me off guard. The white and blue Samsung Galaxy jersey theme translates way better onto a rock-surfing mage than it has any right to. Clean skin. Not flashy, not trying too hard.
Visual changes and what stands out
The whole color palette shifts to SSG’s white, blue, and gold branding. Taliyah’s outfit gets the full Samsung Galaxy treatment with the jersey-inspired design, and her rocks swap to this bright crystalline blue. Kinda feels like she’s throwing chunks of ice instead of stone. The Q rocks specifically look great mid-flight, there’s a cool translucent quality to them that base Taliyah doesnt have.
W and E get the blue crystal treatment too. Worked Ground reads differently with the lighter color scheme, which honestly helps with gameplay clarity in some matchups. Her E mines shimmer with that same blue energy. Nothing groundbreaking for an Epic tier skin but everything feels cohesive.
The recall animation is the highlight. Taliyah surfs on her wall while holding up the Summoner’s Cup trophy. Pure celebration energy. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season and the recall never got old. (Random aside: the trophy in recall animations always makes me wonder if Riot updates the design when they change the actual cup.)
Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is standard for Worlds skins at this price point. Base Taliyah voice is solid anyway so not a huge loss.
The Worlds 2017 line and context
SSG Taliyah dropped July 20, 2018 as part of the World Champions 2017 set. Samsung Galaxy’s roster picked their championship skins and Crown chose Taliyah for mid lane. Makes sense given how dominant his Taliyah was during that Worlds run. Could be wrong here but I think this was one of the more popular picks from that batch alongside SSG Ezreal and SSG Xayah.
Rudy Siswanto and Pan Chengwei handled the splash art. They captured the celebration vibe well, Taliyah surfing through what looks like confetti with the SSG logo prominent. The composition works.
Priced at 1350 RP which is standard Epic pricing. For a Worlds skin thats about what you’d expect. New VFX, new recall, jersey-themed model. The package checks the boxes without going overboard.
There’s one chroma available, the Elite variant. Purple and light blue tones that shift the Samsung branding into something more regal. Honestly I prefer the base white and blue but the Elite chroma has its fans. Seen a few of them in my Diamond games around late season 12 I think.
Legacy vault and availability
SSG Taliyah sits in the Legacy vault now. Typical for Worlds skins, they rotate back during specific events but you cant just grab it whenever. Hextech only these days unless Riot brings it back for a Worlds celebration sale. Not gonna lie, the scarcity adds a little something. Last Tuesday in an ARAM I saw one and had to double-take because I genuinely forgot this skin existed for a minute.
Taliyah mains have a decent selection now with Pool Party, Star Guardian, and Crystalis Motus all available. SSG sits in a weird spot where its not the flashiest option but it carries that competitive legacy. If you were watching Worlds 2017 and remember Crown’s Taliyah locking in during those bo5 series, this skin hits different.
Real verdict
Should you buy it? If you main Taliyah and care about esports history, absolutely. 1350 RP well spent for mains who value the competitive connection. The VFX are clean, the recall is fun, and the overall design respects the source material. Not sure if it’s just me but Worlds skins feel like they age better than most thematic lines because they’re tied to a specific moment.
Skip it if you just want the best looking Taliyah skin in a vacuum. Star Guardian and Crystalis Motus both offer more visual bang. But for that niche of Taliyah one-tricks who also follow pro play and remember SSG’s championship run, this one earns its spot in the collection. Simple recommendation – if the esports angle matters to you, worth tracking down when the vault opens.
