Worlds 2016 Zed

Been running this skin since it dropped back in season 6 and honestly its one of those skins that just carries a specific memory. Worlds 2016 was when SKT took it all again, and Zed was everywhere in pro play that year. Not sure if it’s just me but every time I lock in this skin it feels like queueing up for a high-stakes best of five. The dark blue and gold color scheme hits different from base Zed.

What the skin actually changes

For 975 RP you get more than you’d expect. New VFX on the abilities give Zed’s shadows this deep blue energy trail. Q shurikens have a subtle glow to them, and the W shadow swap feels cleaner visually. Not a massive overhaul but enough that you notice it in lane. The recall animation is new too, Zed does this pose with the Worlds trophy which I think is a nice touch for anyone who remembers that tournament.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO. Standard for a 975 RP tier skin and I wasnt expecting anything there. The model itself swaps out the usual red and black for navy blue with gold accents, matching the World Championship branding from that year. Played maybe 40 games with this last month in Diamond and the silhouette reads well against the Rift. Your shadows are easy to track which matters a lot when you’re trying to outplay in a teamfight or set up a dive pre-6.

The Worlds line and where this fits

Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash. Released September 25, 2016, right before the World Championship kicked off that year. The World Championship skinline has entries for a bunch of champs and they range from forgettable to genuinely solid. Worlds 2016 Zed sits comfortably in the upper half. Kinda feels like Riot put extra effort into the Zed one because of how iconic the champion was in competitive at the time.

(Random aside: I still have the Worlds 2016 loading screen border on this skin from buying it during the event and it looks clean to this day.)

One Golden chroma available. The gold is more pronounced, turns the blue accents into full gold plating. Looks regal honestly. If you already own the base skin the chroma is worth picking up, gives it a prestige feel without the prestige price tag. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Gotta wait for the vault to open or get lucky with Hextech crafting.

Should you pick this up?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, new recall, solid model changes. For Zed mains who want something that isnt Championship or PROJECT this is a strong option. Could be wrong here but I think it ages better than some of the flashier Zed skins because the design is clean and not overloaded. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was spamming ranked and someone in champ select complimented this skin, said they hadnt seen it in months. That tracks. It’s rare in games these days which is part of the appeal.

Skip it if you already own Galaxy Slayer or Empyrean, those are objectively more loaded with features. But if you’re a Zed one-trick building the collection or you want that competitive esports vibe when you’re splitpushing and looking for picks, Worlds 2016 Zed delivers. Top pick for Zed mains who care about the comp scene history. Fair warning, once it goes back in the vault you’re waiting a while for another shot.
