First game I played with this skin was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked in Zed, loaded up, and the green spectral VFX immediately caught my attention. Death Sworn Zed turns the Master of Shadows into something out of a ghost story, and honestly not gonna lie, it hit harder than I expected for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. The whole vibe shifts from ninja assassin to vengeful wraith. Clean.

The spectral VFX carry this skin

So what actually changes here. Zed gets a full ghostly makeover with green and teal energy replacing the standard dark shadow effects. His Q shurikens turn into spectral blades that leave this faint green trail. Looks crisp in lane, especially when you’re poking through minions pre-6. The W shadow swap keeps the ghost theme going, your shadow clone looks like an actual apparition now instead of just a dark copy.

E is where I think the skin shines hardest. The slash effect fans out with this translucent green energy that reads really well in teamfights. You know what surprised me? How visible the E particles are even in chaotic 5v5s around dragon pit. Thats a real gameplay advantage when you’re trying to track your own abilities in the backline chaos.

His R, the Death Mark, gets the full treatment. The mark itself glows with spectral energy and the pop animation has this ghostly burst effect. Been running this in Diamond and the ult animation feels slightly more intimidating than base Zed. Could be wrong here but I swear opponents flash earlier when they see the green death mark land. The recall animation is new too, Zed channels some kind of spirit energy and it fits the whole undead aesthetic perfectly.

Voice lines stay base though. No new VO, which is expected at this price point. Standard voice, no changes. The model itself is solid, Zed’s armor has this worn spectral warrior look with torn cloth elements and ghostly accents throughout. Not as flashy as Galaxy Slayer but way more atmospheric.

Death Sworn and the Halloween 2017 drop

Death Sworn Zed released October 25, 2017. Right before Halloween, obviously. Riot dropped the Death Sworn line as their spooky season offering that year alongside Death Sworn Katarina and Death Sworn Viktor. Kelly Aleshire nailed the splash art, the composition with Zed emerging from green mist is one of the better Epic splashes from that era.

The Death Sworn skinline is small but consistent. Three skins total, all sharing that spectral warrior theme. (Random aside: I actually have all three Death Sworn skins and Viktor’s might be the best of the set, fight me.) Zed fits the line naturally though. A shadow ninja becoming an actual ghost? The concept basically writes itself.

No chromas available for this one. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever. Sits in the vault and comes around during special events or you need to roll it from chests. Hextech crafting is your best bet if you missed the initial release. I’ve seen maybe 4 or 5 Death Sworn Zeds in my games all of last season, its not super common which I kinda like.

Should you pick up Death Sworn Zed?

Real verdict: this is a strong mid-tier option in Zed’s skin catalog. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX overhaul is the main selling point and it delivers. New particles on every ability plus the recall animation, thats the standard Epic package done right.

Where it falls short compared to something like Galaxy Slayer or PROJECT Zed is the lack of new voice lines and the slightly dated model. Season 7 era skins dont have the same polygon count as newer releases. But the ghost aesthetic ages better than you’d expect. Played maybe 30 games with it last month in ranked and the green VFX still look clean on current Summoner’s Rift lighting.

If you’re a Zed one-trick with a big skin collection, Death Sworn is worth adding when it rotates back. Not the best Zed skin full stop, but a solid rotation pick. The spectral theme gives Zed a completely different identity compared to his other options. Skip it if you already own Galaxy Slayer and only want one premium Zed skin though. For mains who want variety in their comp, especially for those late-game splitpush 1v1s where style points matter, Death Sworn earns its spot. 1350 RP well spent when you can get your hands on it.
