First time I saw Prestige PROJECT Zed load into a game I honestly thought it was a custom skin. The white and gold color scheme hits so different from the standard PROJECT version that it barely registers as the same champion. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and the reactions in lobby are always the same: someone types “nice skin” before minions even spawn.
How Prestige PROJECT Zed actually looks in game
The base PROJECT Zed already had solid VFX work going on, but the Prestige version cranks the color palette in a completely different direction. White armor plating with gold trim across the entire model. Clean. The shuriken particles on Q swap from that red-orange PROJECT energy to a bright gold trail that reads really well against the Rift’s green backdrop.
W shadow placement gets the same treatment. Your shadow clone spawns with this golden afterimage effect that, not gonna lie, makes it easier for me to track where I placed it during chaotic teamfights. Could be wrong here but I think the shadow swap animation feels slightly snappier visually even though the timing is identical. Just the color contrast doing work.
E slash comes through with gold particle arcs. Nothing groundbreaking but consistent with the rest of the kit. Where this Mythic skin really earns its status is the R. Death Mark pops with a burst of white and gold energy on application, and the detonation has this satisfying golden shatter effect. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in one week when I first got it and the ult VFX never got old.
Recall animation carries over the PROJECT line’s tech-noir vibe but with the prestige color swap. Zed does his blade flourish surrounded by golden holographic displays. Voice lines stay base, no new VO here, but thats expected for a Prestige variant. Standard voice, no changes from the original PROJECT version.
The PROJECT line and where this fits
PROJECT is one of Riot’s longest running skinlines at this point. Zed was actually one of the original PROJECT champions, so getting a Prestige version felt like a natural move. This Prestige edition dropped June 24, 2021, right in the middle of season 11 when everyone and their duo partner was spamming Zed mid.
The PROJECT universe leans hard into that cyberpunk aesthetic. Augmented warriors, neon cityscapes, the whole deal. Prestige PROJECT Zed takes that foundation and goes luxury with it. Think of it like the difference between a matte black sports car and a pearl white one with gold accents. Same chassis, completely different energy. (Random aside: the loading screen border on this thing is genuinely one of the cleanest in the game.)
Mythic tier pricing means you cant just drop RP in the shop for this one. Special acquisition through the Mythic shop rotation or Mythic Essence. Available through the rotating Mythic shop, so you need to watch for when it cycles in. Last I checked it showed up around late season 13 I think, maybe early 14 dont remember exactly. Point is you gotta be patient or sitting on a stack of Mythic Essence.
Who should actually pick this up
Real talk though. If you already own PROJECT Zed and you’re a Zed main, this is a no-brainer pickup when it rotates in. The gold VFX on Death Mark alone justify it. I’ve seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season, so the exclusivity factor is real. Last Tuesday I had an enemy Zed running the base PROJECT while I had Prestige and my botlane pinged my skin in chat before the game even started.
For non-Zed mains? Skip it. Might be overthinking it but I feel like this skin is specifically for the one-tricks and dedicated Zed players who want the flex. The white and gold reads as premium on the Rift and the VFX changes on Q and R are the standout features. No new voice filter which would have pushed this into S-tier territory, but for a Mythic Prestige it delivers where it counts.
Best Zed skin if you value rarity and clean aesthetics over edgy vibes. Galaxy Slayer still wins for pure flashiness and Empyrean has that newer model quality, but Prestige PROJECT Zed occupies its own lane. The golden shuriken particles in lane phase specifically look incredible when you’re poking with double Q through the wave. Been daily driving this whenever it’s not banned, which in Diamond is roughly every other game because Zed players cant have nice things.
Straight talk: Mythic pricing means you’re investing Mythic Essence, not RP. Worth it for Zed mains, a luxury collectible for everyone else. The skin earns its tier through VFX quality and scarcity, not through a complete overhaul. If you main Zed and you see this in the Mythic rotation, lock it in before it cycles out again.
