First time I saw PROJECT: Command Line Yi pop up in champ select, I had to double take. Not because it looked bad. Because it looked like someone at Riot finally decided to give Master Yi a skin that treats him like a protagonist instead of a side character in his own fantasy. Been maining Yi on and off since season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, and the PROJECT line always felt like it was missing him in a real way. Yeah, PROJECT: Yi exists. But Command Line? Different energy entirely.
What actually changes with Command Line Yi
So this is a Mythic tier skin. Worth setting expectations there. You’re not getting a full Legendary overhaul with new voice lines and a cinematic recall animation. Voice stays default. No new recall either. Base VO, no changes.
What you do get is a visual rework of the PROJECT concept pushed into something sharper. The model itself leans harder into the cyberpunk aesthetic. More angular plating, the visor has this terminal-green glow that reads really cleanly against the Rift. Not gonna lie, the silhouette alone makes Master Yi look like he belongs in a different game. Kinda feels like they took the original PROJECT: Yi concept and stripped it down to the raw code underneath. Hence the name, I guess.
Alpha Strike still uses the base animation skeleton but the color palette shift changes how it reads in teamfights. That green-on-black terminal look means your Q actually tracks better visually when you’re diving the backline. Played maybe 200 games with this thing since picking it up and the number of times I’ve lost track of myself mid-Alpha is noticeably lower. Could be placebo. Could be the contrast. Either way, Wuju Style and Meditate keep the same particle framework, just recolored into that Command Line green. Highlander same deal.
The auto attack animations feel identical to base PROJECT. No new VFX to speak of. Simple change – huge impact though, because that color scheme does a lot of heavy lifting. In a late-game teamfight where theres six ults going off at once, the green cuts through the visual noise better than the blue-orange of standard PROJECT.
The PROJECT line and where Command Line fits
PROJECT is one of Riot’s longest-running skinlines at this point. Master Yi was actually one of the earlier champions to get the treatment, and Command Line feels like a callback to that original concept with a darker twist. The whole line imagines champions as augmented soldiers in a cyberpunk future, and Command Line Yi specifically leans into the hacker archetype rather than the supersoldier one.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Which honestly tracks for Mythic tier skins. You get what you get. (Random aside: the splash would make a sick desktop wallpaper if they ever release a 4K version.) The terminal aesthetic is the whole point, so chromas would kind of dilute it anyway.
Real talk though, the PROJECT skinline has like 30+ skins across the roster at this point. Vayne, Yasuo, Ekko, Jhin, Irelia. Heavy hitters. Master Yi sometimes gets lost in that crowd because hes not the flashy mechanical outplay champion that highlight reels love. But Command Line Yi holds its own visually. Maybe just my experience but I think it actually stands out more than half the PROJECT roster because of how minimal and clean it is.
Availability and the Mythic question
This sits as a Mythic tier skin. Available now. No RP price tag in the traditional sense since Mythic skins rotate through the Mythic shop using Mythic Essence. Standard Mythic pricing applies. If you’ve been hoarding ME from event passes and Masterwork chests, this is where it goes.
Been running this in Diamond for a few weeks and the reactions in lobby are interesting. Last Tuesday around 2 AM in a ranked game, my support literally typed “wait that Yi skin is real?” in chat. Fair warning, not everyone knows this variant exists. It’s newer in the PROJECT lineup and doesn’t get the marketing push that mainline skins do.
Three things stood out after extended play: the model clarity, the color readability in fights, and the loading screen splash. That’s basically the whole package for a Mythic. No new voice lines, no transformed recall, no fancy death animation. You know what surprised me? How much the green visor glow carries the entire skin in-game. At the character model level, that single element does more work than some skins’ entire VFX overhauls.
The honest take
Should you spend Mythic Essence on PROJECT: Command Line Yi? If you main Master Yi and you’ve already got the staples like Eternal Sword or Spirit Blossom, this is a strong addition to the rotation. It fills a niche none of his other skins touch. The cyberpunk-hacker fantasy is unique in his catalog.
If you’re not a Yi main, I’d say skip it. Mythic Essence is too valuable to drop on a champion you lock in twice a season. Spammed this in Diamond across maybe 40 games last week and the skin genuinely grew on me. The lack of new VFX or VO hurts its case against Legendary competitors, but for what Mythic tier promises, Command Line delivers. Top pick for Master Yi mains who want something different from the usual sword-fantasy aesthetic. The PROJECT line needed this variant, and Yi mains specifically needed a reason to care about PROJECT again after the original aged out of the meta conversation.
Arguably the best PROJECT skin Master Yi has. Not because it does more, but because it does less and does it cleaner. S-tier Master Yi cosmetic if you value visual clarity over particle fireworks.
