First time I saw Debonair Master Yi on the PBE cycle back in late 2021, I thought Riot finally lost it. Master Yi in a suit? The guy who runs at you pressing Q and hoping for the best, now looking like he’s about to order a martini. But I locked it in for a few ranked games that December and honestly? It works. The whole concept shouldnt make sense but something about Yi looking clean while he pentakills your team just hits different.
How Debonair changes Master Yi’s kit visually
So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, which means new VFX and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. The model swap puts Yi in this sleek dark green suit with gold accents and a mask that still reads as Master Yi but with serious Debonair energy. Think secret agent meets high-roller casino vibes.
The Q – Alpha Strike particles got reworked with these green and gold slashes. Cleaner than base for sure. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox feels slightly more readable on this skin compared to default, which matters when you’re trying to dodge skillshots in Diamond. The W – Meditate gets a subtle green glow around Yi, nothing crazy but it looks polished. E – Wuju Style lights up the blade with this bright green edge that actually pops against the Rift’s terrain.
His R – Highlander is where the skin earns its keep. The trail effect behind Yi turns into this refined green and gold streak. Spammed this in Diamond last season and the movement speed trail just looks premium. Not gonna lie, it made me feel faster even though obviously it wasnt. The recall animation has Yi doing this elegant sword flourish with green VFX particles. Short and clean. No filler.
(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because he says it makes Yi look “too respectable” for a right-click champion and it bothers him on a personal level.)
The Debonair line and release context
Debonair Master Yi dropped December 9, 2021. Late season 11 release. West Studio nailed the splash, they captured Yi mid-stride with the suit jacket flowing and the blade gleaming. The whole composition screams confidence.
The Debonair skinline is one of Riot’s recurring themes. Yi joined alongside Debonair Brand, Debonair Leona, Debonair Zed, and a few others in that batch. Kinda feels like the line works best on champions you wouldnt expect in formal wear. Yi fits that mold perfectly because nothing about his base design says “gentleman” but here we are.
9 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark suit with subtle highlights reads cleaner in teamfights. Amethyst shifts everything purple which gives off a villain energy I respect. Cerulean Club is the special edition one with a blue and white combo that stands out from the pack. Not every chroma justifies the purchase but those three earned their spot in my collection.
Shop has it permanently. 1350 RP standard Epic pricing. Been available since launch with no vault rotations or anything weird. Loot eligible too if you’d rather roll for it.
How it plays in actual games
Took this into ranked for maybe 40 games across two patches around that time. The auto attack animations feel smooth, which matters a lot on Yi since you’re basically an auto-attack machine with resets. Had this one game last Tuesday around 2 AM where I went 18/3 on Yi with Debonair equipped and the enemy Katarina in all chat said “at least you look good while you ruin the game.” Fair point.
The VFX dont clutter your screen during jungle clear which is important. Some Yi skins (looking at you, PROJECT) have particles that get visually noisy when you’re farming raptors at speed. Debonair keeps it tight. Green slashes, gold accents, move on. Real talk though, the skin feels best when you’re ahead. Something about the suit aesthetic combined with running down the backline after a successful gank just creates a vibe that base Yi cant match.
Main complaint: the green color scheme can blend into Summoner’s Rift terrain if you’re not paying attention. Specifically around dragon pit and river bushes. Minor thing but worth mentioning for anyone who plays against a lot of poke comps and needs to track their own character during chaotic teamfights.
Should you buy Debonair Master Yi?
Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, clean model, solid recall. You’re not getting new voice lines at this price point and thats expected for Epic tier. If you main Yi and want something different from the usual warrior or cosmic fantasy, Debonair is a strong pick. Might be overthinking it but I think this skin actually made me enjoy playing Yi more just because the aesthetic is so different from his usual vibe.
Against competition like Cosmic Blade or Eternal Sword? Different lanes entirely. Those lean into the mystical swordsman angle. Debonair is for when you want Yi to look like he could splitpush your base and then attend a charity gala. Top pick for Yi mains who want variety in their skin rotation. Been my go-to Yi skin since season 12 and I keep coming back to it over flashier options.
