First time I saw Radiant Wukong load in during a ranked game, I thought somebody modded their client. The gold and red palette shift is that clean compared to base Wukong. Been running this skin since season 6 and I keep coming back to it even after newer options dropped. Not gonna lie, for an Epic released in early 2016, it holds up better than some 2022 skins I own.

What Radiant Wukong actually brings to the table

The whole visual direction leans into the Lunar Revel festival aesthetic. Wukong gets ceremonial armor with deep crimson and gold plating, plus this ornate headpiece that makes him look like he belongs in a dynasty painting. The staff redesign is the highlight for me. Red and gold wrapping with particle trails on every swing. Clean.

VFX got a proper overhaul for 1350 RP. His Q hits with this burst of golden sparks that reads well against the Rift, especially in darker areas around jungle camps. E dash leaves a trail of red petals or embers, hard to tell exactly, but it looks intentional either way. Could be wrong here but I think the W clone also got updated particles, the decoy shimmer has a warm golden tint instead of the default smoke effect.

His R is where you really notice the skin doing work. Cyclone spins with red and gold energy swirling around him. In a teamfight last Thursday around midnight, I dove their backline as Wukong and the ult VFX genuinely made it hard for their ADC to track my positioning. Placebo? Maybe. But the visual noise is real and I think it matters in Diamond games where people react to particle cues.

The recall animation fits the Lunar Revel theme perfectly. Wukong does this martial arts demonstration with fireworks popping off. Short and sweet. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for Epics from that era. Doesnt bother me much since Spike Spencer’s original performance still works fine with the skin fantasy.

The Lunar Revel line and where Radiant fits

Radiant Wukong dropped January 27, 2016. Right in the middle of Lunar Revel season, obviously. Sixmorevodka Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the ceremonial warrior vibe without making it look too busy. The splash has Wukong mid-leap with fireworks behind him, very on theme.

The Lunar Revel skinline is one of Riot’s longest running thematic sets. Warring Kingdoms, Firecracker, Lunar Guardian, they all fall under that umbrella. Radiant Wukong sits comfortably in the lineup. Not the flashiest Lunar Revel skin ever made but solid execution. (Random aside: I used the splash as my Discord banner for like two years straight.)

No chromas available for this one. Kinda surprising given how many Epic skins from later years got the chroma treatment, but 2016 was before Riot went all in on that revenue stream. The base red and gold colorway is strong enough that I dont feel like I’m missing out. Zero chromas means zero decision paralysis, just lock in and go.

Should you pick up Radiant Wukong for 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you play Wukong with any regularity, Radiant is a top pick. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX update carries weight in actual gameplay, the model looks premium, and the Lunar Revel aesthetic ages well because it’s grounded in real visual tradition rather than some sci-fi concept that dates itself.

I’ve played maybe 150 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the only complaint is minor. The gold particles can blend into certain terrain on the Summoner’s Rift update, specifically around top lane river brush. Small thing. Not a dealbreaker.

Compared to Lancer Stratus or Battle Academia Wukong, Radiant trades futuristic flash for something more grounded. Might be overthinking it but I think that’s why it still works in season 14. It’s not chasing a trend. Shop has it permanently, so no vault anxiety. If you’re climbing with Wukong and want a skin that looks clean without being distracting, Radiant is the Wukong skin if you can only own one from the pre-2020 era. Been spamming this in Diamond since it dropped and honestly the skin just hits different when you land a five-man ult in dragon pit.
