First game I loaded this up was a late-night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Picked Wukong top into a Darius and honestly forgot I even had the skin equipped until the loading screen hit. The splash stopped me cold. Wukong looking like some ancient forest spirit carved out of living bark, staff wrapped in vines and glowing with that signature Elderwood energy. Locked in and didnt look back.
What the Elderwood treatment does to Wukong
So the model is the big draw here. Wukong goes full treant – bark armor, leaf details across the shoulders, and the staff transforms into this gnarled branch thing that pulses green. The color palette leans deep forest tones with amber and emerald accents. Looks clean in lane, reads well in teamfights. No complaints on clarity.
VFX got a full rework for an Epic tier skin. Q hits with a burst of leaves and golden sparks. E dash leaves behind a trail of floating petals which I think is a nice touch for tracking the clone. The ult is where it really shows – Cyclone kicks up a swirl of autumn leaves and branches, very distinct from base Wukong’s generic spin. Not gonna lie, the ult VFX alone sold me on keeping this in rotation.
Been running this in Diamond for a solid chunk of season 13 and into 14. The W clone looks different enough from base that good players will still spot it, but the forest aesthetic makes the decoy blend into certain Rift terrain. Might be overthinking it but I swear the clone works better on the top side near baron pit where the trees match. Placebo? Probably. Still funny though.
Recall animation is solid. Wukong meditates under a growing tree, very zen monk energy. Base voice lines, no changes there. Standard for 1350 RP.
The Elderwood line and where Wukong fits
Elderwood dropped June 28, 2023. Late into season 13. Ina Wong and West Studio handled the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly. That painting has serious old-growth forest energy with Wukong perched on a massive root system.
The Elderwood skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent themes. Hecarim, Bard, Veigar, Ahri – all strong entries. Wukong fits naturally into the fantasy. Monkey King as forest guardian just works on a thematic level. Better fit than some of the stranger skinline choices Riot makes (random aside: still cant believe Elderwood Gnar exists and is that good).
8 chromas total for this one. Amethyst is my go-to personally, the deep purple bark against green VFX creates solid contrast. Ruby runs warm and aggressive if you want that autumn fire look. Pearl goes the opposite direction – pale white bark that reads almost ghostly in-game, kinda feels like a prestige version on a budget. The rest are fine but those three stand out.
1350 RP price point. Shop has it. Permanent availability so no rush.
Should you pick up Elderwood Wukong?
Real verdict: this sits comfortably in the upper half of Wukong skins. Not the flashiest option he has but the execution is tight. VFX are clean, model work is detailed, recall is worth watching at least a few times before you start canceling it. For 1350 RP this delivers exactly what you’d expect from a modern Epic skin.
Played maybe 200 games with this across ranked and norms. The skin feels good in extended fights where you’re weaving Q resets and using W to juke ganks. Visually it never gets old watching the leaf burst on Crushing Blow. One thing that bugged me early on – the E particles can blend into certain dragon pit terrain during late-game objectives, making it slightly harder to track your own dash endpoint. Minor gripe. Adjusted after a week.
If you main Wukong and already own Radiant or Lancer Stratus, this is still worth adding. Different enough aesthetic that it wont feel redundant. If you’re picking your first Wukong skin though, could be wrong here but I’d say this or Radiant are your best starting points. Battle Academia is flashier but Elderwood has more personality. Top pick for Wukong mains who like the nature fantasy over the mecha or military themes. 1350 RP well spent for mains, especially if you grab the Amethyst chroma with it.
