First time I saw Pug’Maw loading in on the enemy team I actually thought my client bugged out. A pug. With Kog’Maw’s kit. Spitting acid out of that smooshed little face. Been running this skin since it dropped in 2017 and honestly it never gets old watching people react to it in champ select.
What Pug’Maw actually changes
So the model turns Kog’Maw into a full pug dog. Not like a half-hearted reskin where they slap some ears on. Full commitment. The waddle animation fits perfectly because pugs already move like that in real life. Could be wrong here but I think the walk cycle was barely changed from base because the silhouette already matched.
New VFX on the abilities give everything a playful feel. The Q shoots out a little ball, W range indicator gets a toy-like glow, E leaves this trail that reads cleaner than base in teamfights. R is the highlight for me. Watching that pug face launch projectiles at the backline while your support tries to peel for you. Comedy.
The recall animation is genuinely one of the best parts. Kog’Maw does the classic pug head tilt and rolls around. Played maybe 40 games in a row one weekend last season just to see that recall after every back. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is fine at this price point. (Random aside: my duo partner bought this skin specifically because his actual pug looks exactly like the splash.)
Toy Box line and the details
Pug’Maw released March 29, 2017. Part of the Toy Box skinline alongside stuff like Renektoy. Pan Chengwei nailed the splash art. The composition with the drool and the tongue out captures that dumb pug energy perfectly.
8 chromas total if you want variety. Obsidian turns the pug into a black lab vibe which honestly looks cleaner than base. Citrine gives this golden retriever energy thats hard to pass up. Pearl is the safe pick, light and clean against the Rift. Not gonna list every single one but the range covers basically any dog color you’d want.
975 RP for a Standard tier skin. Sits in the shop permanently so no rush. For what you get with the model rework, new VFX, and that recall animation, 975 feels fair for what you get. Most skins at this price dont include custom particles so Pug’Maw punches above its weight class.
Should you lock in Pug’Maw?
Real talk though. If you play Kog’Maw as your ADC pick this is a must-own. Not because its the most flashy or technically impressive skin in the game. Because it has personality. Every other Kog’Maw skin leans into the void monster angle. This one said forget all that, here’s a pug.
Been spamming this in Diamond during those late Tuesday night sessions where you’re just trying to grind LP and need something to keep you sane. The skin legitimately makes laning phase more fun. Kinda feels like Riot put extra love into the Toy Box line and Pug’Maw got the best treatment of the set. I’ve seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which is surprising because the skin is always available.
Skip it if you’re looking for something serious or edgy on Kog’Maw. Battlecast or Hextech exist for that. But if you want to tilt the enemy Katarina by killing her with a pug in dragon pit at 25 minutes into the game and spamming emote after, this is your skin. 975 RP well spent for mains. Top pick for Kog’Maw players who dont take themselves too seriously.
