First time I saw Dino Gnar in a loading screen I thought someone modded the game. Tiny prehistoric Gnar in a dinosaur onesie throwing a bone instead of a boomerang. Honestly not gonna lie, I bought it on the spot back in season 4 and it hasnt left my skin rotation since. The Toy Box skinline doesn’t get enough credit for skins like this one.
What the skin actually changes
For 975 RP this is a Standard tier skin that punches above its weight. Mini Gnar gets the full dinosaur costume treatment, green onesie with little teeth on the hood, stubby tail, the works. His Q throws a bone instead of the boomerang. Clean animation, easy to track in lane.
Mega Gnar is where it gets fun. The transform turns him into this massive red T-Rex looking thing. Played maybe 40 games last month with this skin and the Mega form still makes me smile every time. The new VFX on his abilities read well in teamfights, which matters when you’re trying to land that five-man R in the dragon pit. New recall animation too, little Gnar acts all ferocious and its adorable.
Voice lines stay base, no changes there. Could be wrong here but I think the base VO fits the dino theme fine anyway. Gnar’s babbling works regardless of costume. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because the recall sound tilts him for some reason.)
Toy Box line and release context
Dino Gnar dropped August 13, 2014. Season 4 era. Evan ‘Somnicidal’ Monteiro nailed the splash, the composition with Gnar roaring over the other toys captures the vibe perfectly.
The Toy Box skinline is one of Riot’s more niche themes. Renektoy lives there too. Kinda feels like Riot forgot about Toy Box after a while, which is a shame because the concept has legs. Dino Gnar fits the line naturally, a yordle playing pretend as a dinosaur.
8 chromas total if you want variety. Astral goes hard with the deep purple dino look, been running that one in ranked specifically on bot side top lane. Sapphire turns the whole thing blue which reads clean against the Rift. Pearl exists for the clean aesthetic crowd. Rest are fine but those three stand out to me after spamming them in Diamond this season.
Should you pick up Dino Gnar?
Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX, the model change on both forms, the recall. For a Standard skin this delivers more than most 975 skins from that era. Still in the shop, no vault nonsense.
Been maining Gnar with this skin on and off since like season 5 or 6 dont remember exactly. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I landed a four-man Mega Gnar ult wearing Dino and the enemy Katarina typed “nice skin” in all chat. Small victories. If you play Gnar at all, this is top pick for Gnar mains alongside Gentleman. The transform gimmick just works better when your champ literally becomes a T-Rex. Skip the poke phase, hit 6, go big lizard. Simple change – huge impact on how the skin feels in game.
Astronaut and El Leon exist as alternatives but Dino Gnar has that season 4 charm. Worth 975 RP if you main Gnar.
