First Lulu skin ever released and honestly it still holds up better than you’d expect for something from March 20, 2012. Been running Bittersweet Lulu on and off since I picked up Lulu as a support pocket pick around season 4, and the candy theme just never gets old. Not gonna lie, theres something about turning enemy champions into cupcakes that hits different when you’re peeling for your ADC in a Diamond teamfight at 2 AM.
The candy VFX and what actually changes
For a 975 RP Standard tier skin, Bittersweet Lulu delivers more than you’d expect. The big thing is the VFX. Lulu’s Q fires out what looks like candy projectiles instead of the normal bolts. Her W polymorph turns targets into a cupcake. Cupcake. Not just a different colored critter, an actual dessert. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last month and I still laugh every time their Katarina gets polymorphed mid-ult and turns into pastry.
Pix gets a makeover too. The little companion fits the candy aesthetic and floats around looking like something out of a bakery window. Could be wrong here but I think the E shield particles have a slight candy tint to them as well, though it’s subtle enough that you might miss it in lane.
Voice lines stay base. No new recall animation either, which is expected at this price point. The model itself swaps Lulu into a full candy-themed outfit with a hat that looks like it belongs on a pastry chef. Her staff becomes this massive candy cane looking thing. Simple change – huge impact on the visual read in game. The color palette shifts from purple to pinks and browns, chocolate and frosting vibes across the board.
Sugar Rush origins and release context
Bittersweet Lulu dropped alongside Lulu’s champion release back in patch V1.0.0.136. March 2012. Season 2. Wild times on the Rift. Andrew ‘Silver’ Silver did the splash, and for early League art it reads clean. The Sugar Rush skinline wasn’t really formalized back then but thats where Riot categorizes it now.
This sits in the Legacy vault. So you can’t just grab it from the shop whenever you want. Hextech only these days, or you wait for one of those Legacy sales Riot does around events. Seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you lock it in. (Random aside: the splash has this cozy cottage bakery energy that I kind of love for a loading screen.)
No chromas available for Bittersweet Lulu. Given its Legacy status and age I doubt Riot adds any at this point.
Should you pick up Bittersweet Lulu?
Real verdict: for 975 RP this is solid value if you can get your hands on it. The polymorph cupcake alone carries the skin. Kinda feels like Riot put extra love into Lulu’s launch skin because they wanted to sell the champion fantasy hard.
If you main Lulu you’ve got better options now. Dragon Trainer exists. Star Guardian exists. Space Groove is right there. But those are all higher price points and Bittersweet has a charm that the flashier skins dont replicate. The candy theme reads instantly in teamfights, your W is hilarious, and the overall package punches above its tier.
Skip this if you need new voice lines or a custom recall. Worth 975 RP if you main Lulu and want something with personality that most players won’t have. Been maining Lulu with this in my support rotation since that ranked game where my Kayn inted three times pre-6 and I still carried late-game with clutch polymorphs. The cupcake never stops being funny. Best budget Lulu skin full stop.
