First time I saw Candy King Ivern load into my game I thought someone was trolling. Big candy cane legs, gumdrop Daisy, the whole thing looks like it walked out of a Candyland board game fever dream. Been playing Ivern on and off since his release and this skin caught me completely off guard when it dropped back in October 2016. Not gonna lie, it took maybe two or three games before the charm kicked in, but once it did I couldnt go back to base Ivern for weeks.

What Candy King Ivern actually changes

So the VFX overhaul here is where Riot put the work in. Ivern’s Q, Rootcaller, shoots out what looks like a candy cane hook. Clean read, easy to track in teamfights. His W bushes turn into these sugary pastel zones with little candy particles floating around. Honestly the bush change alone is worth it because in a late-game teamfight when you’re dropping brushes for your backline, the visual clarity is surprisingly good despite how silly everything looks.

E shield, Triggerseed, wraps your ally in this swirling candy coating. Pops with a burst of sugar effects on detonation. Simple change – huge impact on how satisfying it feels to peel for your ADC. The slow field after it pops has these little candy bits scattering outward.

Then there’s Daisy. Big moment. She comes out as this massive gingerbread golem covered in frosting and gumdrops. Every time I ult in a gank and this giant cookie monster starts chasing down the enemy mid laner, it never gets old. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season and Daisy’s redesign carried the entertainment value hard. Her knockup slam has candy VFX too, which reads well when you’re trying to chain CC in a dive comp.

Recall animation is new. Ivern sits down and has a little tea party with Daisy. Cute stuff. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is fine because David Lodge’s original performance already has that gentle giant energy that fits the candy theme weirdly well.

The Sugar Rush line and some context

Candy King Ivern dropped October 4, 2016. Pretty close to Ivern’s actual champion release, so this was basically his launch skin. Christian Fell nailed the splash, the composition with Ivern towering over a candy landscape with Daisy in the background sets the tone perfectly. (Random aside: that splash has been my Discord avatar for like two years now and people always ask what game it’s from.)

Part of the Sugar Rush skinline. Kinda feels like Riot picks champions for Sugar Rush based on how absurd the contrast would be, and Ivern fits that criteria. A tree spirit made of candy. The line itself isn’t huge but each entry commits to the bit fully.

No chromas on this one. Zero. What you see is what you get. For 1350 RP as an Epic tier skin, the package is the VFX, the recall, and the model changes. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of those skins where chromas would actually hurt it because the color palette is already doing a lot of work. The pink, green, and white candy cane scheme is locked in tight.

Should you buy Candy King Ivern?

Real verdict: if you play Ivern at all, this skin is basically required. Not because the base skin is bad, but because Candy King adds so much personality to a champion that already has one of the most unique kits on the Rift. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX are clean, Daisy’s gingerbread redesign is S-tier, and the recall animation has genuine charm.

Thing is, Ivern has gotten more skins since 2016. Old God Ivern exists. Astronaut Ivern exists. Spirit Blossom Ivern exists. Competition got real. But Candy King still holds up because it leans into Ivern’s personality harder than any of the others. Those skins give Ivern a different vibe entirely. Candy King is Ivern being Ivern but turned up to eleven.

Last Tuesday I was playing a ranked game around midnight, jungle clear felt smooth, dropped a candy bush for my Jinx during a dragon fight, she got the triple. Stuff like that just hits different with this skin on. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense. If you’re an Ivern main climbing through Diamond or just someone who picks him when jungle gets autofilled, grab Candy King. Been daily driving it again this season and I think it’s still the best Ivern skin full stop. The gingerbread Daisy alone earns the price of admission.
